Even a good Pope doesn't sit in Moses' seat. The old Covenant was temporary. Jesus was referring to the Sanhedrin. But we no longer follow their interpretation of the Law because Christ has died and resurrected. The Pope has the authority of a bishop. There is no divine office of Pope, no one annointed or ordained him as head over the universal Church. As head he has taken the place of Christ, because it is now being in communion with him rather than Christ alone which constitutes Catholicity.
I guess you need someone to argue with. Not sure I want to be that guy. I took the bait initially, drawing away from the main gist of the thread. At this point I don't want to play along any more in another anti-Catholic ramble.

Um, ok. If calling out an erring bishop qualifies me as a babbling anti-Catholic fool then so be it. You just assigned me the role of an OT prophet;)

Look, if I have a bad guy, my Church can depose him. If Orthodoxy has a blasphemous bishop, other bishops can depose him. Right now, Catholics are arguing whether or not a pope can be deposed. Like,! You guys have painted yourselves into a corner, that I am very sorry for. You gave one person too much power, and now he is blaspheming Christ, his Mother, the Saints and all creation. That should be enough to kick him to the curve, yet he is still tolerated. That's not hate, that's facts. Again, I'm sorry. But the pope is hurting your Church and you a lot more than I am.

God's Speed.

And unless you were born Catholic, you chose to become Catholic. You decided that your interpretation of Scripture or the Church Fathers or life, ie, 'your truth' led to Rome.

Do not all do this when they join a Church? I am extremely conscious of my doing it and often ask who put me in judgment over God, but I see no other route into a Church for it requires that you put yourself in judgment over it.

God gave us freewill, and commands that we forsake evil and choose good. You are not putting yourself over the community of believers if it is a false church. If it is a true church, then it will welcome the freedom you have in Christ. The charge of heresy is only for those (or those churches) who first chose good but then willfully departed.

I am confused as to how this shows the way into God's community without first judging for yourself whether it is true or not and then following your own judgment. You yourself are discerning between communities, and I also am discerning between Catholicism and Orthodoxy. How are you doing it without letting "your truth" lead you into whatever you choose?

Have you been baptized?

Are you thinking about reverting to Eastern Orthodoxy or Roman Catholicism?

I was never Eastern Orthodox before and I am a convert to Roman Catholicism. I am considering switching over to Eastern Orthodoxy. Originally I was just a non-denom Charismatic.

Oh, ok.
If you have been baptized or are regenerated, then you are a member of the Church already imo. Some EO accept RC baptisms and some don't.
Basically, you're an inquirer, seeker. Pride is required to usurp the authority of the Church. Pride is not your motivation, but a greater intimacy with Christ. This is theosis. Theosis requires our whole person, including our free response, which in turn requires knowledge. Seeking to know God so that you can united fully with him and reject false teaching is a judgement we are called to make. The Church doesn't want assent by automation, but assent by love.

One more thought, everyone must judge for themselves. In the end, we live and die to the Lord. Paul, is always telling us to judge for ourselves. If you are a Christian, you do not need to fear your own choices
