Most of you know that I am a new Eastern Orthodox Christian. I have been trying to understand the Crete Council, but it is pretty confusing. So, I was wondering if someone could explain what it was about, why there are many against it etc. I know that's a big request, but I am part of the Russian Orthodox community here in Hanoi and I noticed that the Russian Orthodox refused to attend the council. So, I'm wondering if this will have any effect on me.

it probably won't. it was not done the way an ecumenical council should be called, and from what I gathered it only issued a statement of faith. there are no canons from it or anything like that, so I would say just wait and pray.

I recently saw that some monks called on the other monks of Mt. Athos to reject the council and they said that the Patriarch of Constantinople is in heresy. As a convert from Catholicism, this seems pretty significant. So, I'm wondering what all the fuss is about.

it's typical Church politics that has been going on since day 1. pray and God will work all this out.
