Hello this is the entire message of Romans Chapter 6 verse by verse.

In Romans 5 : There is a lot to go through but the over all message is about how by the death of Jesus Christ paid for all sins -> Believers who come to him are justified by faith. -> because of Jesus Christ and his death and resurrection -> conquering over sin, and death -> Makes a person right with God -> the Lord Jesus Christ brings us eternal life -> Because of our disobedience, his obedience -> and faith on Him makes a believer right with God -> by the grace of God -> that they may have a connection with God through this faith given, that has many benefits.

Here is Romans 6: Which talks right after Romans 5. About Sin, Grace, Glory, Newness of life, freedom of sin.

Romans 6: 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound?

2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?

Verse 2: Paul is telling the people at Romans of course not! How can we who have died to (missing the mark) still live in it?

3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

Verse 3: Do you not already know that all believers are baptized in Christ Jesus -> Were baptized into his death?

4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.

Verse 4: Believers are buried therefor with Jesus by baptism into death -> In order that as Christ was risen from the dead by the glory of the Father. -> We too might walk in the newness of life.

This is talking about how God raises us too from the dead -> spiritual deadness -> we are made spiritually alive again by and through hearing the truth of the Gospel of Christ - His life, death, burial, and resurrection. (Ephesians 2:1-5; Romans 5)

5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.

Verse 5: For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall -> Certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like his. -> A resurrection of life after death also to a spiritual resurrection from spiritual deadness before -> with out Christ in a persons life.

6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Verse 6: We know that our old self -> old man -> was crucified with him in order that the body of sin -> might be brought to nothing. -> So that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.

Without being spiritually awaken and brought alive by God -> we are death in our body of sin, however the spirit -> that is brought to life with-in a believer is awaken and the believer now has reconnection with God -> and their life starts to become changes by the holy spirit given by God that changes the persons life around from the old person they once where into walking into newness of life with Christ.

7 For one who has died has been set free from sin.

verse 7 For the one who has died has been set free from Sin. -> The one who has died to their flesh and born again to the spirit has been free from sin -> Though it is still part of our flesh -> The spirit is the help in being free from the fleshly ways from the old man -> in the new spiritual man that is born again through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

8 Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

Verse 8: Now if you have died with Christ -> we believe that we will also live with him.

Christ is part of us now he live with us, in our hearts, by the spirit of Christ. (Romans 8:9)

9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

Verse 9: We know that Christ being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him.

So here we have Paul saying we know that Christ being raised from the dead will never die again; death no longer has dominion over Him. -> For the spirit of Christ is incorruptible, nothing can kill Him.

10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.

Verse 10: For the death Christ died, he died to sin.

For one time, and for all people. -> But the life he lives he lives to God.

Same process for us -> We become a believer our old man is changes by the new spiritual man in and by the spirit of christ, and the holy spirit -> a person is changed in to living for God.

11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Verse 11: So you as a believer must consider yourself dead to sin, and alive to God in Christ Jesus -> Your old man old ways are dead (though they are very must still apart of you) -> You now are a new person in Christ Jesus, and now have help by the spirit of Christ, and the holy spirit, and also the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ in your life now.

We can't say we wont ever stop sinning, but our lives are changed completely by the new spiritual man with-in through faith and belief in Christ Jesus.

12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.

Verse 12: (This is a emphazes on sanctification -> ) In life it is going to be a life going process -> Because we are going to die -> This verse is telling us to -> Let no sin reign in your mortal body, to make you obey it's passions.

This has to do with the the flesh vs the spirit -> How they constantly fight amongst each other (Galatians 5) -> The only way to let sin not reign in your mortal body is to live by the spirit -> and seek heavenly things and not the things on earth -> When ever you are having troubles in life when it comes to being angry, or having malice towards someone is to pray and give those things to God so that you wont give into those sinful desires whenever they come.

This is a on-going lifetime process that never ends until death.

13 Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

Verse 13: This is the same thing again -> It is telling us to present ourselves to God, as though we have been already been brought from death to life (Which we have - spiritually reborn and God making us alive again ) - Using our body as an instrument for the Good works God created us to do - though we have no room to boast but only in what God has done for us in this life. (Ephesians 2:5-10)

14 For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

Verse 14: Sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under any law, but you are under God's grace.

Slaves to Righteousness
15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

Verse 15 : What then, are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

So does this mean being saved by grace to we continue to live in the old man -(Fleshly ways) opposed to the new man (spiritual ways?)

16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness?

Verse 16: Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves ;

You either obey based on who you serve. Do you desire to serve yourself - old man ways - or do you desire to serve God and - the new man ways - by the spirit and following the Lord Jesus Christ - the Old man ways -> brings for death to the spirit -> where as the Spiritual brings for death to -> the fleshly ways.

Its a never ending process of sanctification -> (Galatians 5)

17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed,

Verse 17: Thanks be to God that you were once slaves to your old man ways, yet have now become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which has been brought forth to you.

18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.

Verse 18: having been set free from sin - of the old man fleshly ways -> slaves towards God and the new spiritual ways -> for God is far more superior.

19 I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

Verse 19: What has been talked about in the previous verses Sanctification.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness.

Verse 20: no comment

21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.

Verse 21: Okay so you were free in regard to righteousness when you were slaves to sin, but what fruit were you getting at that time? From those things which you are now ashamed of? The old man ways and life style - what fruit did that bring?

It brings only things that lead to death.

22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life.

Verse 22: But now that you have been set free from Sin -> From the old man ways -> into the new spiritual man ways -> you have become slaves of God instead of the Fleshly ways and self. The fruit you get now leads to sanctification and it's end is eternal life.

23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Verse 23: For the wages of sin is death -> Old man ways lead to death to the spiritual if you give in to them -> but the gift of God -> eternal life in Christ JEsus our Lord who lives in us by his spirit, -> inducing fruit that comes from following His ways, and Learning and growing in the knowing of God's will, spiritual understanding and wisdom, which brings forth life to a believer and not death of the spirit.

How is it to be dead to sin?

To no longer see it anymore? Being raised up in to new life in Christ Jesus?

What are some of your own thoughts on these things?

What is our IDENITY ? Is it flesh or is it in Christ?

AS a believer?

Verse 11: So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.

Strong's Greek: 3498. νεκρός (nekros) -- dead
3498 nekrós (an adjective, derived from nekys, "a corpse, a dead body") – dead; literally, "what lacks life"; dead; (figuratively) not able to respond to impulses, or perform functions ("unable, ineffective, dead, powerless," L & N, 1, 74.28); unresponsive to life-giving influences (opportunities); inoperative to the things of God.

3498 /nekrós ("corpse-like") is used as a noun in certain contexts ("the dead"), especially when accompanied by the Greek definite article. The phrase, ek nekron ("from the dead"), lacks the Greek article to give the sense "from what is of death."

sin:
266 hamartía (a feminine noun derived from 1 /A "not" and 3313 /méros, "a part, share of") – properly, no-share ("no part of"); loss (forfeiture) because not hitting the target; sin (missing the mark).

266 /hamartía ("sin, forfeiture because missing the mark") is the brand of sin that emphasizes its self-originated (self-empowered) nature – i.e. it is not originated or empowered by God (i.e. not of faith, His inworked persuasion, cf. Ro 14:23).
