  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, I am having a hard time comprehending perfection.

I have several questions in regard to perfection, please point out any faulty logic I have.

1) Christians say Jesus was sinless, does this mean he was perfect?
2) If Jesus was perfect, did he have any inabilities? Per se, could he read and write?
3) Are christians to become perfect when they die?
4) What is this prefection?
5) If we are made perfect, does this mean we are made the same as god? Made into a god?
6) What will make us happy in heaven? Or joyous? If I know everything then there is nothing to do... How can I improve anything?

Thanks

1) Christians say Jesus was sinless, does this mean he was perfect?

Jesus was sinless, but not complete in his humanity. He needed to grow in perfection just like every other human being.

Heb. 5:9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him,

You need to be careful with nomenclature issues here. The answers to you questions really depend on what you mean by perfect.

2) If Jesus was perfect, did he have any inabilities? Per se, could he read and write?

Not in his human nature. He was in his divine nature but according to Paul, He emptied himself of it.

Phil. 2:5 **Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

3) Are christians to become perfect when they die?

Yes, in the sense of completeness.

Bork said:
4) What is this prefection?

Completeness.

Bork said:
5) If we are made perfect, does this mean we are made the same as god? Made into a god?

No, we will be complete creatures. Having a beginning, we can never be as God.

We'll find out how when we get there, but we will have joy. The joys here on earth can give us a glimpse, just as pain on earth can give us a glimpse of separation from God. The how, really isn't something I spend time thinking about. Even the apostles didn't know many details about what we will be like then.

1John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

So, perfection is completeness... thats a concept I have not had.

So, in being perfect a christian is with God? Nothing less?

This is how the term is used biblically. When you read passages about Christ being perfected this is the idea—completeness, maturity.

When we are perfected we will be like Him.

1Cor. 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak as a child, think as a child, reason as a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known.

1)Jesus was perfect obedient servant...the true human.
2) Jesus learned to walk, talk, read, write, everything
3) God works to complete us every day...God matures us every day. After 2 billion years we will still be growing in faith, but we currently walk trying to be everything Jesus was...without sin not that we always succed but...we have grace to continue to mature. On the Day of Christ all sin will be removed from you presence.
4) a typical thought is perfection is unchanging truth...but reality of truth is develops as child becomes a elder
5) God says He is the only God, but He will also share His throne with all of Christ (all of the faithful, the living body of believers in Jesus). Never God, but humble servants that God has created to share creation with.
6) The praise of God brings us joy now and will be. The great party of the marriage with Jesus will bring us joy. The dynamic creation of continued ages of creation will bring us joy then. Adam and Eve had a purpose in the garden, and they worked in it. Jesus and the Bride will have a purpose in the future.

1) Christians say Jesus was sinless, does this mean he was perfect?

I guess it depends on what you mean perfect? He didn't have the attitude of "hey look at me, I am perfect and you're not". He obeyed the laws and did not sin. In the OT, when people made a sacrifice, it had to be an animal that was perfect and no defects. Jesus was our perfect sacrifice because He had no defects (sinfulness).

2) If Jesus was perfect, did he have any inabilities? Per se, could he read and write?

When you read in Luke, you can see he had the ability to read.

Luke 4:16-17 "16 So He (Jesus) came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:...."

3) Are christians to become perfect when they die?

Believe me, no christian can claim to be perfect. We all struggle with sin, but we are not to become slaves to it and serve it. I know when I die, I will not be perfect. :)

4) What is this prefection?

Are you referring to the perfection in question #3? If so, then I don't even know.

5) If we are made perfect, does this mean we are made the same as god? Made into a god?

No, we are not the same as God. We are told to be Holy as He (God) is holy. We are to live our lives pleasing to God, but we do mess up at times. Jesus is our defense lawyer. When the day comes when we stand before God, God will not see all of our sins, but He will see the redemption of what Jesus did for us to those who believe upon Him.

6) What will make us happy in heaven? Or joyous? If I know everything then there is nothing to do... How can I improve anything?

Do we truly know everything? I know I don't. We are told in Revelations that God will wipe away every tear, pain and sorrow from us when we spend eternity with Him. To know I would not have to experience any of those things makes me happy right now. I honestly do not think we will be wandering around like zombies or flying around like angels playing harps. Truly, I could not say exactly what we will be doing in heaven, but I don't think sitting on a cloud will be one of them...:)
Thanks

I really hope I answerd okay for you. I took some headace medicine, and it made me alittle woozy. If this doesn't make sense or I rambled, please forgive me. I tried re-reading it and I think it sounds okay, but you never know...

Bork - I liked everyone else's responses, but wanted to add my own to your #6. I believe that we will be spending eternity loving and worshipping God and learning, learning, learning. I'm sure God has a really interesting eternity planned for us. (No harps, no clouds, no Philly Cream Cheese :) )

When I was born-again I became an avid worshipper - I love church, I love singing, I love reading the Bible - I would never have believed this was possible. In my natural flesh I was patient in church but couldn't wait until the service was over. Now I'm disappointed when it's time to go home. 180 degree change.

Randy Alcorn has written some lovely, even if speculative, fiction on what we will be doing in heaven. One book is Deadline - probably my favorite!

Those are really good quextions, and if I could, I would rep all of those who have responded. I have enjoyed reading the thread and learned, myself.... thanks and God, bless

1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written: "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him."
10 But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
