  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

"....Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,...." (Acts 2:38)

"Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out...." (Acts 3:19)

John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. (Mk.1:4)

The Koine Greek word for converted means 'to turn back morally, to reform: ...Acts 3:19...' Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament (word #1994)

Acts 2:38 understood in isolation would lead one to believe that after one repents, they are to then be water baptized unto the remission of their sins.

Verses such as Acts 3:19 & Mk.1:4 shed light on Acts 2:38 and we then understand that it isn't the act of water baptism that is unto the remission of sins, but that 'repentance' itself is what is unto the remission of sins.

The Koine Greek word for repent means 'conduct worthy of a heart changed and abhorring sin:.....Acts 2:38, Acts 3:19..........' Thayer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament (word #3340)

In the New Testament when people were commanded to repent, they understood that they were being commanded to also believe. Likewise, when they were commanded to believe, they understood that they were also being commanded to repent. This is why so many in the world will refuse to 'believe' because they know that 'repentance' is included in belief!

"The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel." (Mk.1:15

My studies have led me to the beleif that this baptism is not a baptism in water, as many assume, but a spiritual baptism. Spiritual baptism is the baptism that saves, and occurs when we ask God to lead our lives and we repent. People often believe that baptism always pertains to water. The greek means to dip or to dye. We are dyed in the Spirit when we pray the sinner's prayer (sinner's prayer is any prayer that asks for God to become the head of our lives, with our belief in Christ as our redemptive force). Water baptism is referred to specifically in Scripture, and it is used to outwardly confess our decision.

Nice post, Stinker.
God bless,
Dave
