I am going to watch it later tomorrow since I've been told it was really good.

Thought the first episode was good. I'm about 100 pages into the book, and the show seemed to follow along with the book some, but diverge in places.

Watched it. I don't hold out too much hope for it. I mean, it will probably stay on, but I'm nt optomistic that it is something I will keep watching. The first episode has an early on unnecessary sex scene. The guy later turns out to be a sedistic pshychotic who brutilizes the girl and holds her captive. Lots of unnecessary darkness. Sci fi can be great without being soaked in creepiness and darkness. But when Stephan King is the executive producer there's a good chance the creepiness will prevail. And yup, show the cow guts another 4 or 5 dozen times.

Having said that, Stephan King has been seen speaking to Gerry Jenkins. Everyone is redeemable and so are scripts. So maybe Stephan will be redeemed and help the writers do the same.

I'll give them one more try, but as a writer, I just can support or tolerate too much garbage thrown in when it has no usefulness to plot. As a Christian, I don't need every script to be The Ten Commandments, but I do need there to be some respect for both the craft and a lot less pandoring to the lowest common denominator. And as a woman, come on, is showing boys punching out girls really helping anything?

Didn't mean to write a sermon. Guess I'm still mad at Defiance, another good concept ruined by pandoring.

Know what you mean. I'm really uncomfortable with sex and psychotic behavior mixed together also. That character (Junior) is in the book, but is portrayed more in terms of taking a one time act of sex and violence too far, instead of turning psycho and sadistic. At least from what I've read so far.

Did anyone else watch episode two last night. It was good, but not great. Thought there was going to be a Hollywood feel-good ending, but turned out not to be.

I'm watching...some thoughts...

I thought the "fire" was scary because don't they only have so much AIR under the dome? OR is air something that can get through like the water?

I also thought it was scary about what happened to the Sherrif when his pacemaker exploded. What about people like me who have metal because of a broken ankle or tooth fillings? I know I may be talking apples and oranges here but I'm just saying....

Is the Dome a living organism? I know we don't know yet....

I'm not liking the "seizure" stuff. It's just too contrived for me....

That's all I got's for now :)

Having a seizure is not as simple as they make it out to be. THat and I don't rant about falling stars. Granted I know its a plot gimmick. One thing to remember is the mayor (the guy whos hiding the secrets) said "Remember, we did this to save the <city name>!". So at first I thought it was government related.

But the radio station picked up that the government knew nothing about it and is stuck as to what it is. So that makes me think the plot will go down the road of scifi and its probably something like the mayor is an alien or something like that. One also has to ask what is all the propane for? Not sure why aliens would need propane. So right now I think its to early to be able to guess what exactly is going on.

I'm still curious to see if the dome actually goes underground to form another dome (making the whole thing a giant sphere). Because digging your way could be an option. But someone in the show already mentioned they tried digging but the dome is still underground.

I know its a scifi-ish show, but theres already a few issues with plot lines. For example when the sheriff's house burnt down they used the pressure from the houses (or something) to try and put out the fire. But how could they do that if the water lines were severed to like the power lines were?

What confusing to is if the sheriff and mayor knew this would "save their town", then obviously whatever it is must not be that bad. Because if it was then they would have left the dome first before it activated. Or at least I'd assume that. Although the pace maker did explode so likely they must not have realized what the dome was entirely.

Which leads to the point of I don't think the sheriff or mayor knew exactly when or what would happen since when they sheriff approached the dome he touched it as if he didn't know what it was.

Soooo many questions! Please don't take away this show, it will drive me nuts not knowing what happened and why. Although I could always read the book.

I'm on the fence with this show. It's alright, but I have a feeling that the drama will be overwhelming like in The Walking Dead; a great idea torn to shreds by constant love triangles and overall idiocy that I don't feel would be much of an issue in a realistic setting. The whole "the world is coming to an end and we're in constant danger so let's have sex" or "Everything is crumbling so let's focus on things that don't matter" mentality shows have is really annoying.

The holes in the plot also got to me, but the biggest irritation to me is that if they want to see how far down it goes, why not go look underwater since the thing goes out into a lake? Certainly someone has an airtank or scuba suit in this town. :p

I'm also on the fence. I watched the second one on hulu. That way I can just skip the parts when the creepy masochistic stalker psycho character shows up. Just can't tolerate that character. If he sticks around I probably won't. It's too bad because for those of us who like syfy that doesn't get vulgar, the basic plot has potential, but sadly vulgarity sells. Remember Terra Nova's short lived existance. Why didn't it make it. People love dinosaurs. It didn't make it because the leader of the colony had the audacity to make the community abide by a high code of ethics and morals. No sex scenes. One of his soldiers was told he had to court a girl properly. An adulterer was no longer allowed to stay in the colony. We can't have that now, can we?

Rant complete--for now.

I didn't see Terra Nova. I wanted to, but my wife is not a big sci-fi fan. I'll have to put it on my list of DVDs to get.

I do think shows without (or with a minimal amount) of vulgarity could actually succeed commercially. These elements are included in shows it seems due to a lack of creativity and a certain amount of laziness on the part of script writers.

One thumb is for the psycho the other is for the dragging plot execution and writing. It's not that I thought they'd drop this totally plot dissociated character, I'm just disappointed they wrote him in at all and haven't had him fall into a bottomless pit or something by now. but if the execution of th plot were better, I'd keep watching and just move ahead and skip the scene anytime this creepy, unnecessary character showed up, as I had been doing. But the scenes are slow and gummy, and really there's only one truly likeable character, (there's a prize in it for you if you can guess who it is--a free copy of miss a's guide to scene skipping!:D) soooooo...

I've got to say it's still two thumbs down and, if I had more thumbs they'd be down as well.

It looks like Under the Dome has been renewed for a second season. I didn't see that coming. I'm still watching and reading the book, although both have their low points. But they do have some good points too.

I love the show and like many shows before it figured it would be about the characters to some degree and dragged out. Many I know think its becoming boring now because of the dragging but many also seem to need instant satisfaction with something they watch or they get bored. Seems to be more of an american thing. We don't seem to last long on something without wanting more of it ASAP.

Lost. X-Files, Fringe... these shows to some degree dragged out but made it for years on tv. The Dome is taking its time and making us guess so I love that about it. We don't have answers. Heck I am willing to bet we may not get any real answers until next season. Read below....

(SPOILERS WITH RECENT EPISODE)
Watching today's episode finally gave clues to what I have guessed since the beginning of the shows, that the dome is actually sentient or something along those lines. Which makes me like it more because I want to know about the dome. Where is it from? What does it think? Will the people try and defeat it? Or will it go away after its needs are met?
(END SPOILERS)

Whatever the ending is at some point in the future (possibly seasons later), I will be happy. Granted after Lost's ending I was a bit frustrated that the characters felt sort of like I wasted time caring about people who weren't real. But later I accepted that and still love the series.

The only thing about this series I wonder about is Junior. Whenever there are episodes of him and the girl I just want to skip them. But I am hoping for some amazing outcome between them that will make me say "Ah, so their story had a purpose!".

I'm glad to hear that; Under The Dome was the last book I read by SK and I didn't plan to read any others. I began to feel that SK had an animus against Christian given that in every one of his books I've read he has portrayed them badly. I haven't read every thing he's written (most of it, but not everything) so it could be he has shown Christians in a positive light in other books, but the examples I did read turned me off of him though he is a brilliant writer. :preach: Speechifying off. :)

I did start the tv show before I finished the book and have decided, I hope not hypocritically, to continue watching it for now. It's different in many ways from the book and so far I've found it intriguing.
