people dont need to choose it. it can be programmed into them by discipline.

For it to be love it must be a choice. If you are acting solely out of programing you are not chosing to love and your actions are not loving, simply the result of your porgraming. The programing of a computer may be helpful, but it is not love.

"If there is no ability to choose there is no ability to choose between a hamburger and a steak, either" I guess you were saying we cannot chose between an hamburger and a steak.
Hmm, in your last post you guessed the opposite.
Just don´t make so many guesses, elman. Just take it for what it says.
Since it was a conditional sentence "if-then" I did not nor mean to make a statement either way. It was an equally tautological sentence as the one you posted before. (If there is no choice there is no choice).

As for the question whether humans have a choice in their actions, you already know my opinion: They haven´t.

Unconditional love is unconditionally tied in with the belief that God has your back. Without this belief, one would be setting oneself up for an irrevocable wrong -- without compensation, in this life or the afterlife. For many this belief takes the afterlife form: bad folks get pwned (all that fire and no marshmellows); good people get the decadent satisfaction of being on the winning side. Fortunately, nobody really believes this (only madmen or the infinitely depraved do). Love also is a form of seeing; the task of loving is keeping oneself pure, in the present moment, stripped of all distractions and emotional negations. It's incredibly hard to love unconditionally; every inclination is for, has evolved for the sake of, tearing the enemy to pieces. One works against this opposition, and this overcoming is precisely where true power lies. Love -- the willed, overcoming, rather than emotional, involuntary, spontaneous sort -- is thus power.

Maybe you cannot chose between a steak and a hamburger, but I can.
