Namaste all,

i'm really unclear about the nature of this forum..

in any case... i'm having some difficulty in my meditations recently.. i find my Tonglen practice is really slipping to the point where it seems more forced than flowing naturally.

i'm having difficulty getting my discursive mind to settle down for any length of time even during periods of extended sitting meditation.

so.. there it is. any ideas from some Christians that meditate?

metta,

~v

When we meditate we meditate on the things of God, we dont open up our mind to demonic things

er....

tonglen is a Tibetan word which means the "exchange of self and other" or the "equalizing of self and other" and has nothing to do with demons.

discursive intellect, equally, has nothing to do with demons.

all of that said, do you have any particular experience with meditation which you could share which would be of benefit?

This is a world wide christian forum - for christians to discuss various things even though there are nonchristian sites here and nonchristians are obviously welcome.

I'm assuming your meditating on Jesus since this is a christian website. Is this the case? If your not, it is considered demonic. Why? Because we believe the Bible (Word of God).

We (Christians) believe there's this spiritual warfare going on all the time around us. God and his angels are constantly battling for us against Satan and his demons. If we are tempted to lie, steal, commit adultery, etc., what is really going on is a spiritual battle for our souls. The demonic world is putting road blocks in our way to try to keep us from walking toward God. If you have confessed that Jesus is Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). I say this because it is only with this salvation that you can be protected from Satan and his demons.

So we differ very greatly on the definition of meditation. Just as everyone else has said, it is the simple act of thinking about Jesus, his great love for us and how He died on the cross to forgive us. Any other kind of meditation we see as dangerous as it will open up your mind to the demonic realm.

Namaste salida,

thank you for the post.

i do not meditate on Jesus... i'm not even really sure what that means.

there is, of course, a well established Christian meditation tradition originally constituted by a group of beings known as the Desert Fathers and there is a modern world wide community of Christian meditation which can be found here: http://www.wccm.org/home.asp?pagestyle=home

all of that said.. this is struggles by non-christians area where Christians can offer support to non-Christians in various things, hence my posting here.

it seems, however, that i was mistaken.

A true christian will not meditate on anything accept for the word of God, because the bible tells us not to do as the pagans do. Meditation is strong in the asian religions which are considered as pagan, for there works are for self-righteousness, and for conjuring spirits from the demonic realm

Namaste all,

thank you for the posts.

i am fairly confident that this section is the section where Christians offer support to non-Christians.

i would surmise that my knowledge of Christian meditation is sufficient enough for me to know the objects of Christian meditation hence why my OP was not related to it.

explaining what Christians meditation practice, whilst an interesting discussion in and of itself, is somewhat outside the scope of my questions here.

True - the word christian is one who meditates on Jesus alone. Any other "christian" isn't of God but is deceived. The Bible says that Jesus is the only way.

***I went to your website and I was suspecting this. It seems to be an interfaithism group-yes the world system also wants a one world religion as they are obtaining a one world economy and political system now. If you know your bible prophesy which is very detailed, this one world religion will be interfaithism which will lead down a dark road to worshipping the antichrist and false prophet. Christianity is an exclusive faith in reality - Jesus(Son of God) doesn't accept us embracing other religions - this is spiritual adultry. The Bible (Word of God) transcends this world's religion.

Namaste all,

ok, so nobody has any support to offer. fair enough. i was pretty sure that would be the case but since our normal discussion forums have been moved into Outreach, i figured i would see for myself rather than make an uninformed decision.

with regards to Christian meditation and the advice offered thus far.. you are offering advice for the second phase of meditation.. but i am not getting that far yet.. i am in the first phase, Samatha, calming.

one of the first prayers in the Bible is the word Maranatha meaning "God be with us" and it is this term which is used as the focus for the calming, Samatha phase of meditation within the Christian mediation community.
