Hello, everyone! I've been meaning to get more into politics, but I'm not sure where to start; all the sources seem to have a heavy slant in some direction. I've tried international media, but Der Spiegel, Al Jazeera, and The Globe and Mail all seem just as biased as any American source.

I want a source that does less talking about Trump, and more just listing what he said. I like to focus on American politics, but also see what's going on elsewhere in the world. Any recommendations?

Thank you, and God bless us all!

I'm not sure what you're interested in. I like New York Times because they tend to do detailed reporting on a variety of topics. So while they cover today's headlines, a lot of stories are on longer-term issues, with good investigation. They're kind of the opposite of CNN, which is all about Trump, and on average lighter weight stories. Or Fox, which suppresses anything that might reflect badly on Trump. BBC is often considered neutral, and also has serious journalism, but less focus on the US. (Of course neutral depends upon viewpoint. If you look at surveys of US readers, a lot consider Fox neutral.) NPR is also considered neutral, and isn't all about Trump. Different choices of topics than the NYT, but it's hard to summarize.

Incidentally, I think the media bias chart above is fair, though I think the NYT is a bit more neutral than the Washington Post (both of which I subscribe to), and CNN is more to the left than shown. You want to stick within the green rectangle.

In addition to the sources hedrick mentioned, I'm fond of the PBS NewsHour. One of the things I like about their program is that the first few minutes are devoted to headline stories, but after that, they cover just a few stories, 3 or 4, devoting a full 15 minutes or so to each of these stories, so that the viewer can get some depth of understanding.

They're American-based, so there's more American news than international news, but they do cover major international stories. News reporters can't avoid talking about the American president, but they present many stories that have nothing to do with Trump.

There is no biased news source, but the one I've been tuning into for the last several years have been RT. They are a Russian funded news source, and do have some bias toward socialism/Bernie Sanders, but what I enjoy about them is that they 1) broadcast stories that mainstream media almost never talks about, 2) are not Trump hunters, 3) has a more neutral position when it comes to US politics (sometimes they seem they are against democrats and sometimes republicans) than CNN and NBC, but they *almost* never bash Sanders and socialism, so it is nice to hear a third view.

I can't stand American news so much that I have to resort to foreign news media, isn't that sad! Sometimes I do watch Fox, but not very often. Sometimes I read Reuters. Sometimes I read Independent Review.

Some Christian biased news sources and podcasts I have enjoyed are "World and Everything In It," the "Briefing" and the "Dividing Line."

Ive been looking at getting some daily paper again, NYT or WSJ. I miss the feel of a newspaper in the morning. Now I wish I had public transportation available to me so I could read it.

Thank you all for your responses! I think I'll give PBS a try; they don't get mentioned when bias in the media is brought up, and all of you seem to think it's good.

Also, that chart is great! I'm sure there's a lot of debate about how far right/left some of those belong (I'd put Mother Jones all the way on the left!), but it gives a great reference.

I really like PBS NewsHour, thank you so much for the tip! I watched their coverage of Hurricane Dorian last night, and I was really impressed with how many viewpoints they discussed. I just downloaded their app for my tablet.

Thank you all for the tip, and may we always pray for what we read in the news!

I don't follow news much anymore, but when I do I try to get a variety of perspectives. I like the PBS News Hour, WSJ, and the Chicago Tribune.

FYI, I've been reading a book about how religion is portrayed in the media. It's an interesting read:

I like The Economist, which is considered a centrist magazine with an outstanding fact-check record. It's off-shore origin tends to give it an unbiased view of the American scene and provides in-depth coverage of international news which American publications often lack.

I used to be quite fond of the Economist myself. They aren't free of bias though, but are usually upfront about it - for instance Free Trade and Euthanasia. The latter was where we parted company, though I still read it on occasion. They still misrepresent some things that I have seen, but everyone has some lense on. Their South African coverage is also not unbiased, so it makes me wonder what biases I am missing elsewhere.

Nothing is free of bias, and no news source is objective. I think it best to read from a variety of sources on the same issue, to help balance implicit or explicit biases they may have. This is especially true on political issues, where it is best to read the left, the right, and something more centrist. My wife watches rightist youtube commentators, then reads leftist newspapers, while leavening it with crazies for a little spice.

By what standard do you judge them biased on those subjects?
