Last Lord's Day the piano and guitars cut out and the congregation sang without any accompaniment. It was absolutely beautiful. You really can't appreciate it until you try it and experience it in worship.

I have been to enough churches on either side of this issue to conclude that instrumental accompaniment can be a positive thing or a negative thing. If a congregation is composed of tone-deaf folks committed to making a "joyful noise to the Lord" the cacophany can even drown out the loudest instruments. On the other hand, too frequently I have observed large congregations who silently listen to the musical performance of the instrumentalist(s) and/or choir (aka worship team).

On the "scale of certainty" I'm an 8. I really see a lot of problems in the modern church over music style and instruments. A fellow was just telling me he wants to add electric music to their worship but people are up in arms about it. Just sing the dam song already... lol
