It is the norm for people to get married and have children (not necessarily in that order ), so if you choose to go against that norm, you will be odd.

You need to decide what is more important to you: not having children or being 'normal'. Because you will catch flak for being different, regardless of your reasons, and you need to be prepared for that.

I agree with this. One way I look at it that brings me comfort is "I choose to be child free but I can always choose to be a parent if I want, however, I cannot 'put the kid back in' if I no longer want to be a parent."

to not WANT children? I do not know if I will get married, but even if I do I do not WANT children mostly due to my health, seizures, poor motor skills/balance and OCD/depression. What do you all think of that choice. I noticed they have a thread here for childfree marriages, but it seems that in general people get married and have children am I THAT odd?

Of course its ok, its your life to choose how you live it. I admire that you put thought into it instead of popping em out like so many do without being able to care for them properly

Of course its O.K . And I think becoming less and less odd as people accept more and more not everyone desires children for varying reasons. Not to mention people who do want children are having less on average . I don't think its anymore odd to not want children at all than it is to not want to have as many as you physically can .

Your reasons for not wanting children are much more solid than many others that I have heard...like "they will get in the way of my freedom". (said by another couple to me when I asked)

That is just as solid of a reason as any .

I personally believe it's ok. My husband and I agreed before marriage that neither of us wanted children. 6 years later we maintain that. I don't like it when people keep saying that I will crave it or whatever. I don't think so. I work with children (special needs ones at that) and I love children, but I don't want my own. I don't believe that I could provide them with adequate care emotionally and financially. While God always does provide, I also believe he wants us to be smart about what we do. The times have changed.

It is your personal choice. Besides the ones that tell say you must have children are unlikely to help you care for them once they are born.
