It is the norm for people to get married and have children (not necessarily in that order), so if you choose to go against that norm, you will be odd.
You need to decide what is more important to you: not having children or being 'normal'. Because you will catch flak for being different, regardless of your reasons, and you need to be prepared for that.
I agree with this. One way I look at it that brings me comfort is "I choose to be child free but I can always choose to be a parent if I want, however, I cannot 'put the kid back in' if I no longer want to be a parent."
