  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I assumed the person meant ignorance because they were coming from an atheist point of view and as such would likely view belief in a divinity as ignorance.

Having freely believed in a divinity at one point in my life, I do not view those who do today as ignorant. And I'm an agnostic when it comes to G-d, and am only atheist when it comes to religion. :)

Therefore, I was just replying to their assumption without feeling the need to step in and issue a refuation because it would just become another point of argument anyway where I'd probably get a Dawkins argument thrown at me.

Boy, talk about pot/kettle...

I don't even know what a Dawkins argument is.

For true accuracy, you need a powerful lobby demanding that Internal Wolf Theory be taught as literal truth, and people insisting that evil scientists like Dawkins know that the wolves inside are real and they're covering up the x-rays that prove it.

Professor Dawk-head responds:

“My good man, let me assure you, that we scientific moderns, through autopsy, x-ray, MRI and CAT-scan, have irrefutably established that there are in fact not two wolves, nor any wolves, inside humans. As to the apparent truth emotionally implicit in this old savage's ideas, well, we're at a loss to explain that at the present time, but we're working on it.”

Cool proverb!

And for the doubters it holds some truth.

Emotions are the results of chemicals in our brain, the more we expose ourselves to these chemicals the more addicted we become to them.

For example, people who are angry alot of the time become quicker to anger as this pattern continues.

Similarly people who spend a long period of time upset, soon find coming out of this spell that they are more upset by smaller things.

I'd recommend reading Daniel Goleman, "emotional intellegence" for some more thoughts on this.

I've heard that story before and I think it's pretty interesting. I think if we nurture anger or cruelty in our hearts as opposed to something like empathy and kindness, we do end up letting one side "win". But, I don't believe it's that black and white, that one side wins for good or that people cannot change.

I never knew that. How interesting!
