NAIROBI, Aug. 30 -- Two American priests were consecrated Thursday as Anglican bishops in Kenya, the latest in a string of conservative priests who are defecting to African churches in a dispute over gay clergy.

The conservative Kenyan Anglican communion is growing here. I think I read that they've already had a few churches in AZ come into communion with them.

But there is a looming fight with the US Episcopal church over church property. That could get nasty.

I would repect each person's right to do what they feel the Holy Spirit is leading them to do. So I'd support these two preists.

I would also support the gay priests that have been appoints by their peers to places of leadership. These people also would say they are being lead by the Holy Spirit and I just don't feel comfortable telling them they are wrong.

I agree. We should only stand up for the authority of God's word if it makes us feel comfortable.

It seems like an awful long way to go to defect, but I applaud them for taking a stand.

Here's hoping that Bible believing Methodists (hard as it may seem to believe, there are some out there) follow the example of the conservative Anglicans and Episcopals and split from the UMC.

There's a lot of really disturbing things going on in the church right now (WoF, emergent church, liberalism, etc), but what's happening with the Anglicans and the Episcopals really gives me a lot of hope that things aren't as bleak as they seem.

It's going to cost them a ton financially. As the church is organized, all real property belongs to the diocese, I think. Thus the dissenting churches are getting their pants sued off. Fortunately some states are upholding the rights of the parishioners who bought the property.

Also, the dissenting churches first rallied around a diocese in Texas, I think. But eventually they had to find someone higher up than a Bishop. The African churches are the only ones growing exponentially (well along with the dissenting churches) and offered to oversee them organizationally. It's not sitting well with the apostate official TEC organization.

That's the problem with the (small 'e') episcopal structure. Many protestant churches have a (small 'c') congregational structure where the local congregation owns the property.

This kind of a situation highlights the usefullness of that structure (I'm speaking only of structure - not of theology/doctrine)
