The Christian should keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus.
Rev 14:12 Here is endurance of the saints: here [are] those keeping the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.'
There is something we, as new covenant Christians, need to understand. There are two ways to keep the commandments of God.
One is through fear, as seen under the old covenant and the other is through love, as seen in the new covenant.
God has freed us from the old in order to establish the new. He didn't do away with His commandments, but rather, through His love He has poured out His grace so we can keep them without fear.
Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more.
This is not saying the Law is done away with, but rather, that when we break His Law His grace abounds much more. This frees us up to keep His Law without fear of punishment. He is telling us that because of His great love for us, He is more concerned with our relationship with Him, rather than, our short falls.
1John 4:17-18 Herein is love made perfect with us, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as he is, even so are we in this world. There is no fear in love: but perfect love casteth out fear, because fear hath punishment; and he that feareth is not made perfect in love.
