Thuribles are used in regular masses all of the time - depending on availability of thurifers.

(*BTW, the Episcopel Church that I used to play a Christmas festival for (called The Boar's Head and Yule Log Festival), made use of thuribles during the processions. I was never a fan of incense (the smell anyway), but it did add an interesting effect to the show)

I am not a fan of incense, either, but in the past it did a splendid job of covering the stink of the unwashed masses at mass.
