Are any of you both musician and minister or ministry leader of something that not related to music? If so, how do you do both without spreading yourself too thin?

I just joined a church and the pastor 'strongly encouraged' me to get involved with and take on some of the leadership responsibilities in a couple ministries. Also, the music director is renovating the music dept. and has asked if I want to get on board.

I would like to do both but I'm concerned about burning myself out and being ineffective across the board. Any comments, suggestions, anything?

I hear what you are saying. I had the same problem last year. To much responsibilities, to little time.
This year I am heading only one, and are partly helping out in two others. Because the big responsibility of those two are on the shoulders of someone else, I enjoy them more. the new leaders and I work well together and they ask for help ideeas and hard labour from me when they need it. I am in a possition of saying NO when I have insufficient time and energy.
My family had a hard time last year because I was not able to take care of them as I should.
So my Gran told me : It is no use getting so busy with the work of God, that you miss the God you work for.
if you quiet time will be challenged, leave it.

I believe the sermon-giver and the song-picker should work together to present a unified worship opportunity. But it's awkward for a pastor to run from the pulpit to the choir director's podium (and I've seen it done)...or for there to be an awkward silence where there should be a prayer after an anthem because the pastor has to run from the back row of the choir to the pulpit....

If all members of the church would take up the role God has given them in the church and serve accordingly, others would not have to spread themselves thin. The church God has placed me in (to teach it how to grow according to Gods way; evangelism) very, very few are willing to do anything. For 20 + years service has never been required of them and they are having a difficult time opening their hearts to this. But until the day ALL Christians use the spiritual gifts that God distributes those few that are willing to serve will continue to spread themselves thin.
