  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I can't stand the thought of this anymore, I just wish Jesus were standing before me right now so I could hug Him and tell Him how sorry I am for what He endured for me. I know I can tell Him but I want to hug Him!

I thought of something else that really tore me up, when Veronica was handing Him the water and poor beaten up Jesus went to reach for it, looking so thirsty and thankful to get a drink and the guy kicked it out of her hand before He got any!  I cried so hard right then! My poor Jesus...
HE's just down the street. Waiting for you to visit him :)

Plus the fact that his skin was sensitized from 'the agony in the garden'. He literally sweated blood in anticipation of the sufferings to come...this is now known to be a medical condition where a person is under such severe stress that their capillaries burst and they sweat blood.
There are many theories about the nature of Christ's sweating blood; yours is one of them. Others have said that at the time he was praying, he experienced all the sins of the world...past, present and future. Now that would make me sweat blood, too!

All glory, honor and praise be to my Savior!

To the topic at hand: Two different movies.

I was at my "old" forum lurking when I read some posts about some of their impressions of the Passion. I agree that there are apparently two different camps who view the film. It seems to me that many Christians because of their theology, have somewhat "sanitized" versions of Christ and His death on the cross. Confronted with a brutally graphic depiction of Christ's sufferings, they recoil in horror and claim that such violence is not necessary, that it didn't have any positive spiritual effect on them. Since most of them are from "non-denon" backgrounds, I wonder if this contributed to this reaction? When you attend services with lots of upbeat music and exciting preaching, a movie like this can be a real downer. Added to that, few churches have a positive view of suffering. Only the Catholic Church to my knowledge even has a theology of suffering which see the benefits of such suffering and its ability to unite it to Christs experience. To their credit, there are obviously numerous Christians of all stripes who have been deeply moved by the film and feel they are better for having seen it.

Just my thoughts.

Reaction of one Protestant:

"My eyes are sore, I have come to know things differently now, but words can't describe how I feel about Mary now also, I was so blind not to understand her role. I felt so selfish and horrible as I viewed this movie, how all this time I have been committing so many sins and after what Jesus went through for my sins and others, how could I be the same."

The part I bolded really impressed me.

I know you have resolved to wait to see the movie, but you will find out why this reaction is. It is because the sufferings of Jesus was shown through the eyes of His mother. She basically tells the story. Mel did a great job in pulling that off. We literal watch along with His mother.

I did not know that, Michelle. Wow. That will probably make it even worse for me than I have expected. I meditate on the passion everyday and one of the images I have used most often is the moment when Jesus looks down from the cross and sees His mother. The pain she felt for Him was only exceeded by the pain He felt for Her having to see Him on the cross.
