  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

this thread is about one of the best shows ever to be on tv
it was on from 1959-1964 and had 156 episodes
i have never seen a bad one, some are better then others sure, but really, none of them i would call bad

i am making this thread, because it has come to my attention that some of the non-american posters here might have never heard of this wonderful show

do you have a favorite episode?
do you hate the show?

I haven't seen a lot of episodes but the ones I have seen were pretty good, although I did enjoy some more than others. The episode with the monkey on the airplane wing is still a classic in my book.

Technically, he was supposed to be a gremlin.

I love the series and have entertained the thought of buying the entire thing on DVD. It's so much more than a horror show, even though some of the episodes could have had a horror theme. The stories always have some kind of bizarre twist at the end. Of course, they have tried to make more series after Rod Serling died, but they were always garbage. The movie was OK, but it was just a ripoff of episodes from the series.

My favorites:
"To Serve Man" - Where aliens land and promise to do all these good things for humanity. Great ending!

"An Obsolete Man" - Burgess Meredith goes on trial in a futuristic totalitarian state for being a librarian.

The episode where the girl in the distant future doesn't want to have an operation to make her "beautiful."

The one where the beautiful woman is considered ugly in a society where everyone has a fish-face.

There are so many others, but these are the ones that come to mind.

HAHAHAHA!!!! Love it. GREAT show, it's one of my favorites! I watch the Twilight Zone marathon that the SyFy channel plays every Independence Day and News Years.

I LOVE the twilight zone!!! My favorite is where the nerdy man with glasses never has time to read and his shrew wife won't let him. Then there is an Earth wiping out bomb dropped (cold war) and he survives because he was in the basement of his bank. Then he wanders around and finds a library and is thrilled b/c now he has all the time in the world to read. But the ending is so ironic. Oh the irony!

I also love Alfred Hitchcock presents.

OB-SO-LETE! OB-SO-LETE! OB-SO-LETE!

I don't remember a lot of the names, alas, but I like the one with the nerd who always gets made fun of until the end of the world comes.

I also like the one about the earth changing its orbit and going too close to the sun.

To Serve Man is by far my favorite, but I also like the one where they just explore a day in the town where little Timmy (I think it was Timmy) is the superbeing in charge of it.

The first I ever saw was "I Sing the Body Electric", though it isn't my favorite.

And another one that I really like is the woman who is terrorized by the aliens about the size of her big toe... and the one about the salesman who sells people EXACTLY what they need.

I'm trying to describe them without knowing most of the names or giving the endings away... so... forgive me here hahaha

If we're going with mentioning that some of them have religious themes, there are a couple that everyone MUST see. Tho I had to reference Wiki to get a list of episode names haha.

Okay:
Season 1 (1959):
Judgement Night
A Nice Place to Visit
Mr. Bevis

Season 2: 1960
The Howling Man
Season 3: 1961:
Two
Deaths-Head Revisited
A Quality of Mercy

In addition to these, there are a bunch that entail people making or having to cope with being offered deals with the Devil.

Those are the ones I can think of that I've seen that have fairly strong messages any Christian should find VERY interesting. Not to say they are the ONLY ones, but the ones I've SEEN.

I also like how they star the guy who played Artemis Gordon in the old Wild Wild West in a bunch of episodes :D

ETA: As far as I can tell, this is in fact a legit, legal link to watch some episodes online. The one I'm linking is "A Nice Place to Visit":

I love that in the year and a half (or so) that I've been posting here in Singles, The Twilight Zone has been brought up so many times. Sweet.

I don't know how anyone could hate the series, but to each their own. I think they're brilliant; some of the best writing for a television series. Though I think they were meant to be more thought-provoking than scary, there were definitely some shows that took me aback a bit. Night Call was really creepy. Having someone moan into a phone like that and just keep saying, "Hello" and "I want to talk to you" in such a creepy way.... ugh. Also, the monster on Nightmare at 20,000 Feet was so creepy to me! Actually, it still is lol. I know it's a suit, but the face is just... ugh, I'd rather not see it lol.

Some of my favorites have been:

The Fear - I really adore the actress on that one.
The Obsolete Man - What a great message in that one.
The Masks - Easy to tell what will happen there, but interesting nonetheless.
Five Characters in Search of an Exit - I'm a little dense sometimes, so I totally didn't see that ending coming.
Midnight Sun - Pretty much the 2012 and Day After Tomorrow of its time.
A Piano in the House - Very interesting one.
The Man in the Bottle - A bit predictable, but I still like it. It's actually a really heart-warming story.
Escape Clause - Pretty much a "be careful what you wish for" message.
Monsters Are Due on Maple Street - Scary, actually. Also reminiscent of The Shelter.

There are so many, but I can't list them all. :sorry:
