  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why is it that when you ask people whether or not TV today is bad or not, they will say "Yes, most of it is ludicrous, mindless, and not worth watching" but they still watch it. Like someone who says not to smoke while lighting up a cigarette. People can see just what TV can do, and in most cases, does do to many many kids and even adults, but when we say, "why not get rid of it?" they look at you like you are an alien or something?

Just because a lot of TV isn't very good quality, won't stop people crashing in front of it after a hard day. I don't see the problem with that, unless the shows are a negative influence, but that's up to the iindividual to weigh up.

There are a very small number of truly good shows out there, anyway. I personally won't be giving up TV completely while they're still on, and I have the film channels!

Well most of what is published in just about any medium is ****. Tabloids, romance novels, shock jock radio shows, those terrible 'modern' art pieces, and so on, but hey, if we banned all the art and literature in the world then we wouldn't be able to enjoy any of the great pieces.

Well, I'm not saying get rid of art. I'm more of an actvist- I say, stop looking at other peoples art so much, and make some of your own.

And the problem with TV is just that- no originality. We could be creating music, artwork, curing cancer or something, but we are instead vegging out in front of the TV. I understand that work and school are stressful and tiring, but I've found that instead of wasting away in front of the TV after school because I'm too mentally exhausted to do anything else, I just go to sleep an hour earlier. I feel more creative (I used to dislike having to come up with anything for myself), more awake (sleep is a much better way to regain energy than TV), and have more time to do stuff, as opposed to sitting in front of the TV.

The TV was a great invention, but like so much else, we have taken out the meaningful part of it and crammed utterly useless mind-rot in it's place.
