Apparently Turkish President Erdogan didn't think much of Trump's letter.

Turkey's Erdogan 'threw Trump's Syria letter in bin'

Article excerpt: Turkish Sources: Erdogan ‘Threw Trump’s Syria Letter in the Trash Bin’

Turkish presidential sources told BBC in Turkish that President Donald Trump’s October 9 letter to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was “thoroughly rejected” by the Turkish president.

How thoroughly? The same Turkish presidential sources said: “President Erdogan received the letter, thoroughly rejected it and threw it in the trash bin.”

The letter offered no diplomatic niceties and was unabashedly straight forward: “Dear Mr. President, Let’s work out a good deal! You don’t want to be responsible for slaughtering thousands of people, and I don’t want to be responsible for destroying the Turkish economy – and I will.”

Trump concluded his letter saying: “History will look upon you favorably if you get this done the right and humane way. It will look upon you forever as the devil if good things don’t happen. Don’t be a tough guy. Don’t be a fool!”

Trump then added a final line: “I will call you later.”

According to BBC in Turkish, citing the Turkish high level sources, Erdogan was very upset by “Trump’s mixture of threats and locker-room banter,” so much so that he ordered his troops into Syria that very day.

He probably did throw it away. He is that kind of personality (which apparently is applauded by some people who think the same kind of personality in Trump is just soooo unforgivable).

However, that is far from saying that it had no effect upon him.

It is often the case that leaders or even the rest of us are immediately angered by something we are told, but the message is nevertheless received and, after a little cooling off occurs, we may agree with some of it or at least make our decisions with those contents in mind.

Is this meant to be one of your jokes? Can never tell with your posts.

Is there not a cease fire?

Did not Trump threaten to destroy Turkey’s economy?

The greatest True Republican ever to be elected by the American People has brought this peace to the world through diplomacy.

Oh so it was intended as a joke.

The fake republicans were all beaten and shut out during the primaries; Trump was the only one left standing and won the nomination unanimously.

The American people did vote for Trump, as he is currently serving as the President of the United States.

Oh, yeh. The president who is a wimp and toady of every foreign dictator but also an out of control bombthrower at the same time.

Those talking points sometimes trip over themselves. ^_^

You have never witnessed a small man attempting to over compensate?

BBC said:
"We are suspending the operation, not halting it," [Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu] said. "We will halt the operation only after [Kurdish forces] completely withdraw from the region."

Mr Cavusoglu said Turkey had also secured its goal of having heavy arms removed from the Kurdish-led fighters, and their positions destroyed.

There seem to be only two parties involved here - Turkey and the USA.
The SDF was not represented at the talks between Washington and Ankara, and have not yet commented on the developments.

The correspondence aside, Trump may well have played this just right.

Turkey gets what it wants.

Iran and Russia increase dominance in the region.

Kurds left out to dry.

US presence removed without any consideration of future ramifications, which seems like a lesson that has been repeated ad nauseum.

Somebody is winning I suppose.

They are very much alike, aren't they? Erdogan and Donald -- two of a kind.

And then in less than five hours of negotiation agreed to cease fire.

Some people interpret "cease fire" as "time to reload." It remains to be seen if Erdogan is one such person.

The letter was so powerful that Turkey waited until the next day to start their offensive.
