  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Right. Trump doesn't seem to be putting out things akin to Bible Gateway passage: Psalm 51 - New International Version Where's anything like "a broken spirit" @jameslouise

My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
Same answer, why dont you ask The Holy Spirit to reveal if what I said is true?

I do not agree with your logic either? Does God have anything like a 'broken spirit? Cos David was a man after Gods own heart too?
Does like mean identical experiences? Nah
The quote is from more than one of the modern day prophets btw.

why dont you prayerfully ask him?

Wow, shocked.

Let's make this easier... where did God allegedly say this? Please provide the quote and a source.

I asked, but there was no response. I think that might indicate that it's down to you.

Every generation back from me, as far back as I can go, was involved in a war. I was lucky. My kids never came close. My grandparents lived in a small terrace with no bathroom and an outside toilet. As did my parents. Apart from my maternal grandfather, all my close relatives died before 60. Things that are now considered an inconvenience would kill you not so long ago. My kids now have nice homes, free health care and access to healthy food. Smog was a problem back in my childhood and everyone burnt coal to stay warm. Minorities were ridiculed and often physically abused. Women were treated like home help. If they were lucky. Rape by a husband wasn't even cosidered wrong, let alone illegal. Violence at home was the norm. Physical beatings in school the same. Democracy was in short supply worldwide. Class divisions in society was rife. Education was basic. And I'll stop there before I morph into a Python sketch.

But it's all gotten worse? You just have to be kidding me. The freedoms I, and now my children enjoy, the standard of life, the benefits we enjoy...literally everything I can think of is better. And the exceptions are those that prove that rule. If your life has become worse year by year, decade by decade, then you have my sympathy. But your forum name and your posts indicate to me that you are a conservatively minded Christian. And that what you mean when you say that things are worse is that your opinions on morals are different to most others today. And you think that a return to...what? The morals of the 50's? The 30's? That that will somehow realign your idea of what morality should be with what you want it to be.

In which case, tough luck. I have no sympathy with your position whatsoever.

Many things are better, especially for those in poverty.

However, at the same time other things are worse.

There weren't any school shootings for instance, when I was younger. The first in history was Columbine I think, and now it's a regular occurrence - yet gun laws are stricter than they used to be. Kids today are all kinds of messed up.

Whether or not castration (chemical and otherwise) of minors was a good thing wasn't even a question - it was child abuse back in the day. Still should be considered so.

The list can go on and on...

When conservatives talk about how much worse it is, we aren't saying everything is bad: parts that are just as important as the things you mentioned have gotten seriously worse - and it should be a concern to everyone. Our next generation is messed up beyond recognition.

Columbine was notable because it was, up to that point, the deadliest school shooting in US history.

But, a shooting just 12 months earlier killed five and wounded 10 others: 1998 Westside Middle School shooting - Wikipedia

And, just a few months after that there was another mass shooting with 4 dead and 10 killed: Thurston High School shooting - Wikipedia

School shootings have been a part of US history since before the 1900s and became more frequent from the mid 1930s onwards. Unless you're pushing 100, there were plenty of US school shootings when you were younger. If you look at just the decade before Columbine, there were at least 300 deaths from around 100 school shootings across the US (likely more, as there's no comprehensive source on school shootings). That's an average of nearly 1 per month.

We can talk about kids if you like. As traumatizing and morally repugnant is the intentional shooting of a child, let's see how children fare in general. From here: The First Measured Century: Timeline: Data - Mortality.

By the early decades of the 1900s, a wide range of improvements begin the drive the infant mortality rate down. Central heating meant that infants were no longer were exposed to icy drafts for hours. Clean drinking water eliminated a common path of infection. More food meant healthier infants and mothers. Better hygiene eliminated another path of infection. Cheaper clothing meant better clothing on infants. More babies were born in hospitals, which were suddenly being cleaned up as the infectious nature of dirt became clear. Later in the century, antibiotics and vaccinations join the battle.

The infant mortality rate started a long slide from 165 per 1,000 in 1900 to 7 per 1,000 in 1997.

The health of older children also improved. Diseases that had carried off thousands of children in 1900 were practically eliminated by 2000: diphtheria, and pertussis, measles.

So when would you prefer to bring up a child? The begining of the 20th century or the end? I've got a very old family bible upstairs and names in it going back to my great great grandmother's time. A list of all the births and deaths from her time onwards. And right up to the early 20th century there were generally a minimum of six children in each generation. With their date of birth. And invariably 3 or 4 dates added too soon afterwards when they died before the age of 5.

And for people in general?

For white women, life expectancy at birth rose from 51 years in 1900 to 80 years in 1996. For white men, life expectancy at birth rose from 48 years in 1900 to 74 years in 1996.

'Leave it to Beaver' or the 'Brady Bunch'?

OB
The Brady Bunch was contemporaneous when I was a child. Is anyone claiming that fabric of society has remained unchanged over the last seven decades?

...and Andrew Bolt, Australia's Tucker? Maybe our Aussie friends can comment....
Sky News Australia is another (Indirectly owned) Murdoch media company using the Fox formula of pushing sensationalist, rabid right, tabloid 'journalism' via a range of opinionated talking heads. Sky News doesn't rate that highly in Australia.

Andrew Bolt is a Tucker wannabee. Fortunately, his (Bolt's) opinions don't get much air play.

Song Of The South perhaps. Or Gone With The Wind. Maybe Birth of a Nation.
The anything in the past was nothing but racist fallacy. Or are you implying I must be a racist since I'm not a liberal virtue signalling social justice warrior progressive?

I think I'd prefer to listen to policies that Biden might be proposing. And compare them to the GOP so I could make an educated decision on who is the better party to run the country. And if someone of note says or does something really stupid I'd like to listen to some facts about it.

Too much to hope for you think?
"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. "- John F. Kennedy

Objectivity went out the door the day Biden was sworn in. The White House press corps may as well be cardboard cutouts. What happened to the gnashing of teeth at every press conference with the last President? The majority of the press is trying to suppress any bad stories about their candidate. So, any comparison of policies, is prohibited these days.
"It's our job (to control what you think)" -Mika Brzezinski, MSNBC

"And yet, at the same time, the undeniably big topics, the ones that will define our future, get no discussion at all. War, civil liberties, emerging science, demographic change, corporate power, natural resources. When was the last time you heard a legitimate debate about any of those issues? It's been a long time. Debates like that are not permitted in American media. Both political parties and their donors have reached a consensus on what benefits them and they actively collude to shut down any debate about it. Suddenly, the United States looks a lot like a one-party state." -Tucker Carlson, (Twitter, 4-27-23)

We're just trying to narrow down the viewing experiences which have instructed your opinion that the world is going to hell in a handbasket.

That is, unfortunately, correct. That it was pointed out by one of the major players that actually feed the flames of that problem is irony well beyond anything I could conjure up.

Good Lord. A drummer and now a banjo player trying to tell us about music...

For some reason, whenever I hear someone described as a banjo player, I immediately picture them as a minor character in 'Deliverance'.

Who guessed but lying does have consequences.

They made a load of money off him which they then lost in the court cases that followed. His notoriety and out outspokenness were entertaining to watch and Fox did not care about the truth. But now Fox is both broke, boring and with an established reputation for prioritizing entertainment over truth.

Itll take me a few days but I will provide it. Kat Kerr has said it many times (quoting God the Father as comparing Trump's personality to David) so has Julie Green and I think Robin Bullock too. There s so many Kerr videos itl take a while though.
Lets focus on Kat Kerr, the argument will be about her validity or not, so firstly i say that The Holy Spirit/God the Father will give some a gift of prophecy Rom 12:6. Also we should respect them Mat 10:41. So prophets did and will exist.
So, name one for me.
I asked, but there was no response. I think that might indicate that it's down to you.
It doesnt work that way, be patient with no preconceived ideas and he will reply but will you listen?
