There actually is something to this, at least in terms of what charts.

People have studies quantifiable aspects of music like tempo, melody, harmonic complexity, structure etc, and found that variety in those factors among charting songs has measurably decreased over decades. In other words pop music is becoming objectively more formulaic over time.

In the UK if their was any evidence of election fraud there would have been a huge and open public inquiry. Our press would have gone ballistic and quickly.
