Name: Tuan Caladren
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Description: Tuan is about 5’ 10’’, with a well-balanced build. He has the heavy-shouldered frame of a middle-weight boxer; one touch of biceps and a glance at his powerful forearms bears testimony to the toils of a solitary life. His legs are the sort that always appear firmly planted on the ground, and his normal stance is kind of a slouch, as if he is unaware of people around him.

Tuan’s complexion is medium, his eyes are deep brown and seem to reflect a depth of melancholy, and his thick black hair is kept trim when possible. He wears all black when traveling, and does not usually tuck his pants into his boots, though he somehow remembers to tuck his shirt into his pants. Because he gives little attention to aesthetics, his clothes often appear slept in.

Personality: Tuan is a loner by choice. He travels from city to city, studying and writing. Most people who know him see him as a wise and silent man, but a man of harsh words. When Tuan speaks, he is not delicate in his language, for he believes it better to be a bit too cynical than to soften the weight of reality. Consequently, he is often held at a distance by others, but this is fine by him. Though he seldom shares his knowledge, he is highly schooled in theology and metaphysics. Many who first learn this are surprised; his appearance and mannerisms are those of a bum, not a scholar.

Beneath his callous exterior lie a deep thinker and dreamer, a real idealist. Although he is capable of cutting words, even seeming cruelty, he is inwardly sensitive to the connections between people, especially those whom he has deemed his. For these Tuan will fight any battle… so long as it does not threaten his own independence.

Background: The son of an archmage and a blacksmith’s daughter, Tuan was born and raised in his mother’s village in southern Peria, in the shadow of the Mountains of Hope. His father led a small band of fiercely dedicated warriors, known as Caladren’s Fists, whose duty was to protect the region from the raiders that sometimes came from Anserak in search of women and plunder. Howeber, in his early years, Tuan showed no interest in being either a mage or a warrior like his father; he learned the rudiments of mana and sword use, but his real love turned out to be learning and knowledge. He therefore began training to become a scholar from a young age, under the tutelage of a wise man his parents hired from a prestigious Eyrelan collegiate.

For most of his youth, Tuan’s studious life remained relatively undisturbed by the triumphs and tragedies that befell the rest of his family and village. Then one day, his father moved the family and the families of the Fists to a tower on the other side of the mountains in order to do research on the nature of Anserak itself. It was here that Tuan’s life changed forever. His father and mother were caught on an expedition and killed, along with all but a handful of the Fists. Tuan then showed an unexpected side of himself when he rose to the occasion and led the survivors on a desperate flight back to Peria, where they settled down in the coastal city of Nuniyu.

Shortly thereafter, Tuan traveled to Eyrel with his mentor and a longtime friend; and once there, he began his full-time career as a scholar of history, philosophy, and theology at the great library called Whitewall . That picturesque castle, filled with sages and learned men and the dust and tomes of the ages, became the base for Tuan’s later travels.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Lore
Tuan is a scholar from his youth, therefore he has studied and read many materials on a broad range of topics. His most competent fields of knowledge are history, philosophy, and theology.

Mental Acumen
Education and experience have given Tuan keen perception and a refined thought process, making him an excellent strategist and assessor of situations.

Moderate Weapon Proficiency
Tuan is fairly skilled with the long sword, but has little practice with anything else. He does know how other weapons are used, in a general sense.

Mana
Tuan has a great deal of raw potential as a spellcaster, but never bothered to develop this talent. He tends to learn only simple spells on a need-to-know basis.

CURRENT STATUS

Peria Empire: The Palace of Kirshwier

On a detour to the city of Phelatia, Tuan was caught in the chaos of the elven conquest and forced to fight for his life. He became the unwitting rescuer of one of Peria’s young female generals, who subsequently twisted his arm until he agreed to join her cause. To ensure Tuan’s continued cooperation, the general placed a medallion around his neck. The medallion enables her to track him anywhere in Christia; it cannot be removed, nor can its chain be broken.

A Grain of Sand
Following the destruction of Kirshwier,, Tuan went underground with the general, using his mental acumen as her tactical mastermind. However, he escaped at the first opportunity and took up with a band of travelers headed for Akhonne, the home of the archmage Sir Lawrence Athenuel.
