Well, we've kind of fixed out date for our first official 'trying' - it will be 11-13th Fenruary - which just happens to be when I have a half-term holiday from school (I work as a teacher). So it's the ideal time to be ovulating and trying. :)

My husband is scared to death but I'm hoping that 1 1/2 months is long enough for him to get used to the ieda!

:)

Maharg

Congratulations! Welcome to the world of TTC. It's going to be a wild ride!

Hmmm...that looks a little like operator error to me. Are you taking your temps at the same time every day BEFORE you get out of bed? Are you using a basal thermometer?

Yes and Yes. I take my temp at 630am every morning. I think one time early on I took it a few minutes later, but not durring my fertile time. I am a restless sleeper so I'm not sure maybe that has something to do with it?

I hope it's an operator error. I take my temp every morning at 6:00 am (give or take 5 or 10 min on either side) with basal thermometer. I get up and go the bathroom and take my temp while I pee (sorry if TMI).

Someone else has suggested that I temp vaginally... what fun.

I hope hope hope I ovulated. I wanted to ahve some bloodwork done to confirm I o'd, but doc says since I'm on progesterone he wouldn't be able to tell... the only way would be doing an ultrasound but they can't squeeze me in until Januaray 4th and by then I should be starting my period anyway. ugh :(

You are not supposed to even get out of bed before you've temped. Basically the more movement the more it will affect your temperature. I know some women who have their husbands place the thermometer into their mouths so that they do not have to move at all.

Getting up and moving around while you temp is a major no-no. Sorry.:sorry:

I was told to take my temp before I even get out of bed. You pretty much need to know what your temp is while you are sleeping, except you're not sleeping... That walk to the bathroom could be messing up your temp each morning. I take my temp as soon as my eyes open up and before I even pull the covers off. Since I've been doing that it's very consistant.

This is what I do too- except I reach over onto my nightstand and pick up my BTT.

well, do either of you have a silent Basal thermometer? ... because I'm afraid mine will be noisy enough to wake DH up.
Mine beeps 4 times when the temp is taken, but it's not very loud. DH gets up at the same time in the morning as I do anyway, so it's not an issue. As for weekends, I still take it at 630am, but we just end up falling back asleep anyway.

If you are going to temp and rely on it as a means of conceiving, you really need to do it properly or else it's pretty much useless.

Thanks fish burger... I read again in my TTC book last night and it said that it doesn't matter if you are up for 10 min or take it right as you wake up... it doesn't change enough to matter. So, differing opinions I suppose.

HOWEVER, my DH keeps the house COLD COLD COLD and I read that I am supposed to hold the thermometer between my thumb and forefinger for 30 seconds to warm it up or else it will give me a false reading... so today I warmed it up and my temp was higher than ever.

Next cycle I'll be doing it vaginally though.

Mine beeps quite a bit, but, my hubby can sleep through pretty much anything. So, no worries there!

My naturopathic doctor wants me to test under my armpit next cycle (if i'm not pregnant by then). I don't think I could bring myself to doing it vaginally...

Really? I tried the 'get up and temp' method and my temps were always all over the place. I never got accurate readings until I started taking it before I got out of bed.

Well DH and I have decided that if we do not conceive this month, we are going stop until the spring. It's just going to be way to stressful to try and conceive plus get into our new home. I decided that the extra stress would not be worth it during this time.

This may also be selfish, but I have spent the past 2 christmases away from my family and I've already booked off the time so that we can go home next year. I do not want to fall pregnant and end up being too far along to travel or a due date around Christmas that would prevent us from going. Might sound selfish but it's really important to myself and my parents that I go home next Christmas.

According to what i have read (Fertility Friend and other sites) the best and most accurate readings come from taking ur temps before gettin up in the morning at the same time each day, even more accurate if you temp vaginally. I still temp orally. Mine beeps also but if i'm not gettin up at 6.40am when i take my temps my dh and i just fall asleep again. He's even taken interest every morning to see what's going on so he looks over my shoulder to see what the temp is at.

My hubby always ask me what my temperature is. It's cute :p

The book I read this in was "The Art of Natural Family Planning." They did a study that had women take their temperature right when they got up and then a few minutes later after they moved around and put clothes on... they found negligible difference.

Either way, "warming up" my thermometer really has seemed to do the trick. This morning I saw that DH had the house cooled down to 60 degrees!!!!!! So, I thought for sure that my body would be cold, but no, it was still 98.1 like it was yesterday.
