Please don't take this as an attack on your faith. But do you really know Him personally? Do you KNOW that you have the Holy Spirit dwelling within you? Really, the reality of His Spirit in us is enough to cast aside any number of doubts like these. I DO understand your doubts, though. I have asked something like these questions as well, and I'll try to express the answers I found that have satisfied me. As another poster mentioned, mankind was created in felloship with God, the current situation is a result of Adam and Eve's rebellion. As sinfull creatures, we could not endure the true pressence of God without being destroyed, and anything less than what God really is could be explained away as some form of alien life trying to control us, right? We have been given verifiable proof: Rom 1:18-23 NKJV For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, (19) because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. (20) For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, (21) because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (22) Professing to be wise, they became fools, (23) and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible manand birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Those who come to faith in Christ have the added witness of His Spirit dwelling in them. As I stated above, we would not survive an encounter with God as He truly is in our sinfull state, and anything less than Who/what God really is does not do Him justice and could be explained away by our sinfull minds as something less than an eternal, omnipotent, holy God. God gave us the best revelation of Himself possible in Jesus Christ, and the world has rejected Him overall. He will return in even greater glory in judgement, and after 1000 years of His rule, the world will rebel against Him again. Only then will God give up trying to woo sinners back to Himself and bring an end to it, destroying the heavens and earth and bringing the universe into fellowship with Himself... can you imagine what it will be like to see the Father as He truly is? I like to call it "raw God", nothing but Him as He is. That is the time we all ultimately look forward to... this current world is fallen and will not be reconciled to God, and it is only by His grace and mercy that any of us are saved. hope this helped; Mike
