It was brought to my attention that the following probably should have been posted here, rather than in the Creation subforum. The issue came up that we should all be seeking to save the lost, to spread the Gospel, a point which I wholeheartedly agree with. In fact, it is why I post:
Exactly, and as I have posted before, I witness a great deal and counsel youth and college age kids. The single greatest hindrance I have to spreading the Word of God today is the teachings of Young Earth Creationism. It comes up ALL THE TIME lately, with all these Creationist "ministries" out there presenting Christianity as completely incompatible with evolution and an old earth. I can't tell you how many times I have heard non-Christians tell me "why should I believe the Bible when it says that Earth is 6,000 years old?!" I spend a great deal of my witnessing time trying to UNDO the damage that YEC teaching has wrought. Similarly, I have had at least a dozen high school and college age kids come to me in a crisis of faith because they finally came in contact with the other side of the story regarding evolution and the age of the earth and have concluded beyond a doubt that it is correct and that YEC'ism is wrong. They grew up in our church being taught that evolution completely contradicts the Bible, is an atheistic belief, etc. It is not surprising that many of them were then doubting the validity of Scripture. If I had not been there to advise them that many Christians (indeed, most Christians worldwide) have no problem accepting the evidence from God's creation AND accepting Scripture as completely true and trustworthy, some would not be in Church today.
THIS is why I post (see my post "Why I Post" for more details). People in both of those categories come to these boards and follow these debates. Without the TE's providing the counterbalance to YEC teaching, souls would be lost, plain and simple. I am witnessing to the lost or confused every time I post here and on other boards. I am explaining to them why they CAN be a Christain, or remain a Christian, even if they accept that evolution is correct. I am not really even talking to the YEC's, who will not listen anyway, but to the troubled soul who reads these boards and the others where I have posted. I have received many PM's and emails confirming that my work for God is reaping a positive harvest for God.
