Trying to Live a Godly Life in an Ungodly World

Violence, sex, pornography, hatred, coveting, theift, murder, pride, gluttony, avarice, drunkeness, drugs, teenage gangs, bullying, discrimination and poverty seems to be all this sinful world consists of. Never do I engage in the immoral acts of bullying others, viewing pornography, getting intoxicated, taking drugs, and et cetera, but they have a way of filling me up with hate and anger. I don't want to be like that - I want to be full of love, serenity, kindness and humility; the sort of person God favours and smiles at. It's so difficult though when such repulsive, immoral acts take place - it infuriates me. What should I do? Has anyone got any advice to offer me that would help me in living a godly life in such an ungodly world?

Do you think that anger of any sort is wrong? How could you use your anger to bring God into a broken world?

If you read Ecclesiastes, you find Solomon sounding rather depressed by the condition of the world. His description of the world differs from the description Paul gives in 2 Timothy 3 of the last days in that Solomon was distant from God and Paul was close. Solomon sounds as if he has no hope, Paul declares not only hope but certainty.

Some people see a solution in plunging into the world and declaring that it is not so bad. Some see the solution to constantly criticize the world (although this often leads to the self-righteousness of the Pharisees). Some see the solution to withdraw from the world. Others find the solution to draw continually closer to God and grow in Christ-likeness such that the world is seen as a passing phenomena. It is the transcendent path that offers the only true solution to evil in the world.

That is why King David always prayed the prayer that God write His laws on his (David) heart. He also used to pray that God daily renewed his mind.

Whatever you lack or need less of, PRAYER is the KEY.

Draw closer to God daily. Pray that God removes whatever it is which makes you angry, hateful and bitter to others, regardless what they are doing or how it affects you.

Also, try to remove yourself in a way from areas and people who cause you these things/feelings.

My best advice to anyone who feels that way would be to draw closer to God, to renew their mind daily with the word of God and to PRAY to God daily concerning the things which they need help with.

God hears such prayers when people mean it with all their heart and are really wanting to do something about it. He answers and helps them

It may not happen overnight, but God has a way of working in individual lives gradually to make them learn, experience and GROW.

First of all you don't just pray for God to remove these things from you.
You can't take something away and then go on empty can you? When demons go out of a person, they will always try to find a way back in.

You said these things 'fill you with hate and anger'.
You need to ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. And then ask God to SEAL you with the Holy Spirit. Think on things lovely, true and noble. When your focus is on Jesus, then He can give you His peace and joy.

Don't puff yourself up thinking you are not like these other sinners, just because they sin visibly to you. EVERYONE has sinned and fallen short in their hearts. Once you realise this, you will have Jesus compassion for the lost.

So some things to ask God for - a right spirit - the Holy Spirit
a renewed mind
a new heart
some armour (so these darts of Satan don't penetrate you)
daily bread - his word to feed you
living water - to cleanse you

Jesus says..come, follow me. Are you following Him or always looking back like Lot's Wife? Don't look back to Sodom! God's judgement is sure, we aren't to pronounce judgment, although we are to warn others. He's leading you through the narrow gate..remember you can't walk forward if you are always looking back.

Lol try all you want but YOU can't live a Godly life. You're asking for the attributes of God but YOU'RE trying to get it. God is the ONLY one that can do it through you and He wants you to have his attributes but no amount of YOU trying will get you where you want to be, trust me! You want a godly life...do this get on your knees, humble yourself to God and let him know you want to live a godly life and ask Him to help you, and HE WILL maybe by leading you to certain people or changing your attitude and desires, I don't know but I know HE WILL if you ask! God keeps doing this till your time is up so it doesn't happen over night. It's a crazy world out there but if God is for you, who can be against you? :)

Renew your mind upon the Word of God.
Set an air of praise and worship in your home and in your car.
Listen to uplifting gospel music.
Pray for sinners, yourself and others.
Pray for the Lord to renew in you the joy of His salvation.

Remember--
Nothing wrong with having righteous anger but the key is not
allowing it to turn you into someone who is bitter...bitter
people tend to stray from following the Lord.

Yes...the advice i have is for you to remember that we are just passing thru this life and Heaven will not have any of this . Further, count your blessings that Christ delivered you from/out of the ungodliness of our Culture . Allow the contrast to strengthen your resolve to not side with the world and its philosophies which run counter to Christ. Feed on the Word of God for wisdom and direction . Be amongst Christians regularly for encouragement and while we are to be amongst Unbelievers, dont allow yourself to be influenced by them and instead be a different light unto them. Pray for those who are utterly lost and that have given their life over to Satan, and dont even realize they have.
