• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hello to All

I have just joined the Christian Forums as I believed this would be
the best place for my quest.

As I was helping a very sick looking dog in the Highland Park area of Los Angeles,
I met a homeless man who tried to help me help the dog.
I gave him some money to eat and he was ashamed I gave him so much (was only $10)...

nevertheless, he accepted the money afterwhich he revealed to me
that he was a Christian and asked if I was....
i said i am Christian more or less
( i sincerely hope no one is offended by that here)
I go by the belief that we should all help each other when we can.
He then asked me to help him...
to help him find a rehab center to get well.
he was practically crying.
He said he was homeless and admitted to being an alcoholic
and that he really needed help, but had no idea how to do anything....
no one will talk to him.

He also claimed he had been in federal prison at some point
(I don't know what for)
and is now living behind a laundromat.
I told him I would investigate some rehab centers for him....
he began to cry ... alot. He seemed unsure I would
return this next Saturday with
the information to help him. I assured him
I would try my best.

I wanted to find a place that supports his religious beliefs for his recovery...
it is the very least I can do.
He asked for my help so I am in some way bound to help him.
He is spanish speaking but does speak English well enough.....

If any you know of any Christian Recovery Centers in Highland Park (Los Angeles - near 90042 area, Figueroa street)
where he can go to rehab, please let me know.
A Christian homeless shelter or a church that helps in these matters....

I have googled Churches in the area trying to get a hold
of anyone who may able to direct me or tell me of a place
where this homeless man can get well,
but the results aren't very promising....

Any advice out there would be greatly appreciated.
Blessings to All... and thank you so very much
for your time and for reading my long post....

It's great you found a place that would be willing to help the gentleman out Noobie. Even if the man you met has changed his mind in the meantime, as alcoholics are prone to do, it is a good resource to keep in mind if the situation comes up again in future. Please do not be disappointed if your efforts are rebuffed or you do not see the man. The blessings are in your efforts, not the final outcome.

God bless.
