No.

Nebraska Man (Hesperopithecus haroldcookii) was a mislabeled tooth that belonged to an extinct peccary known as Prosthennops serus.

My guess is that scientists were so desperate to find a "missing link" that, when this tooth was found, jumped the gun and labeled this thing as an "ape of the western world."

If I gave example after example after example of scientists jumping the gun, I would get moderated.

That's what bugs me.

It's okay for them to bring up acts in the Bible where men, women, children, and animals were ordered to be killed, but let me bring up just seven people who died in a recent tragedy, and they run to mamma and complain.

Note that the error was uncovered and corrected by other scientists, not by creationists.

After what? five years?

After the damage had been done in the way of getting more evolution driven into our heads?

Literal creationists would never have made that mistake.

Scientists are notorious for lighting fires, then putting them out.

So what was Nebraska Man? myth or legend?

It was a fraud and was scientifically exposed as such but the press at the time blew it out of all proportion.

I'm not so sure it was a fraud, per se.

I think it was just a matter of blind hysterics.

Most scientists at the time were quite skeptical but, as I said, the press grabbed the story and ran with it. It took time to expose the fraud for what it was but AV1611 seems annoyed that they did and suggests a conspiracy theory.

Who named this thing Hesperopithecus haroldcookii? the press?

I don't think so.

And c'mon ... five years!?

As opposed to creationists, who invent lying arguments (like the 2nd law of thermodynamics making evolution impossible) and then continue to repeat them after they've been shown to be false, never admitting their mistake?

We have our faults too.

is it possible that even a myth has at least a tiny bit of scientific truth to it?

Ummmm, for some reason the theory of Evolution comes to mind...

Well that's a good one if you're like me and say that Christianity and evolution can coexist with one another. :)

Oh, of course they can...they do.

In fact, you can't have evolution without Christianity.

*The same is true for Marxism...

**And Islam...

Well, I don't believe that we evolved directly from monkeys,.. but I'm pretty sure we evolved from what humans first looked like at the beginning of creation. Also I do believe that it's been proven that a big bang was the start to life here on earth,.. so who or what caused the big bang? It all seems to fit together like a puzzle to me.

Well we didn't evolve from (modern) monkeys, they are our distant cousins.

And the Big Bang happened long before the earth physically existed.

Actually scientists have it backwards (what else is new).

The "big bang" comes at the end, not the beginning.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

As I understand it, God is simply going to revoke the strong nuclear force and cause all the atoms to fly apart.

Then He is going to take the protons, electrons, and neutrons and put them back together to make a New Heavens and a New Earth.

I agree to the first part that you said but I don't understand the second.

I think he means the big bang occurred 13,700,000,000 BC, leading to the Earth's formation in 4,543,000 BC.

Alright thanks, it's just how that it was worded that threw me off.
Their wording changes with the weather.

It is no longer considered a "bang" anymore.

It is called an "expansion."

Thus it should more appropriately be called, "The Big Expansion."
