  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We can not predict if we do not know (even we do make models, kids do that too).

That's the good part. The more we know, the more we can predict, precisely because uniformitarianism is right. The universe is knowable and predictable.

Uniformitarianism assumes we know.

No, it acknowledges that we can know.

Catastrophism assumes we do not.

No. Catastrophism assumes that all large scale changes are sudden and discontinuous.

You make the call.

Only uniformitarianism is consistent with reality.

Not much of a choice.

Uniformitarianism assumes we know.
It does not assume that we know. It is based on what we have observed in the natural world, including evidence from the past. For example if you calculate all of the areas within the earth's strata that used to be surface area, ie wind blown deserts, forests etc, there is way too much surface area to have been made in a couple thousand years prior to the flood. It must have taken time. That's a conclusion, not an assumption.

Catastrophism assumes we do not.
Well I actually agree with you, catastrophism is an assumption.

You make the call.
It's not up to me, it's up to the evidence found in God's creation. I don't think He's a liar.
