Trump's Juneteenth message: "Too many holidays in America ... The workers don't want it either!"

Perhaps the problem with Juneteenth is that some people would rather we were celebrating something else that day. We just have to figure out what something else is that they want. In my state, some people celebrate Robert E Lee's birthday on Martin Luther King day. Two very different people with the same birthday, although in reading about Robert E Lee, I saw that although he was loyal to his home state he was not that sympathetic to the Confederate cause.
I remember how shocked I was when I first moved here and saw on the Sunday issue before Martin Luther King Day the newspaper devoted one whole 11x17 page to Robert E Lee with not a mention of Martin Luther King. What's wrong with this picture I thought? So is there some other confederate general whose birthday they can celebrate on Juneteenth? Stonewall Jackson day? Then they might be happy.

Their birthdays (month & day) are four days apart.

True, but since the calendar shifts about, holidays are now tied down to connect to the weekends. Both are observed on the third Monday of January.

Anyone else experiencing Trump fatigue?
We introduced my kid to Harry Potter recently. Watching The Sorcerer’s Stone, I realized it was pretty telling that Eric and Don Jr both looked at Draco Malfoy’s haircut and thought “yeah, I wanna be like that guy.”

He says there are "too many non-working holidays" and that it "must change". That he makes this statement on Juneteenth clearly implies that he thinks Juneteenth is at least part of the problem, if not a primary example of it.

What do you think this means other than him thinking that Juneteenth should be eliminated as a federal holiday? Do you think he'd be in favor of bumping one of the other federal holidays instead? What about Columbus Day, which is the arguably the least warranted of the federal holidays?

Nope, he wants to bring that one "back from the ashes":

Though, if workers think they get too many holidays, maybe Labor Day would be the most fitting one to axe.

Maybe Trump will create an Executive Order to remove Juneteenth, since there are too many holidays, the same day he realizes St. Patrick's Day isn't a national holiday and orders it be observed by the government because the Irish aren't represented by holidays . After all, Blacks will still have MLK Day to honor them.

Juneteeth which wasn't an official holiday at all, and probably a lot of Americans had never even heard of it, was made into a national federal holiday very recently. That's the difference.

All developed countries in the world laugh at America.
No mandated annual leave? I know a lot of companies might give ten days, but all the same...that's just crazy. If your company closes between Xmas and New Year then that's half your holidays gone already. Who can work for a year with only one week off?

Every employer for whom I have worked has methods where employees earn paid time off. In my current job, I can earn up to one month off every year. The federal holidays such as July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are also paid holidays.

People can't afford to be fatigued. They need to be energized, alert, sensing danger, ready to respond with everything they've got.
Don't be the boiled frog. You have to keep resetting back to what has always been considered normal. Don't take last week, or last month as the new standard. Don't accept any of this as being acceptable. The last time out you had people inside the system who acted as guard rails and prevented the worst from happening. They aren't there any more. So it's up to you.

From here: https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/05/her...n-days-the-typical-american-worker-gets-.html

The United States is the only advanced economy in the world that does not guarantee its workers paid vacation days and paid holidays,” says John Schmitt, Vice President of the Economic Policy Institute, in a report for the Center for Economic and Policy Research. “Relying on businesses to voluntarily provide paid leave just hasn’t worked. It’s a national embarrassment that 28 million Americans don’t get any paid vacation or paid holidays.

Notwithstanding that there's no federal mandated paid maternity leave either. We get 24 weeks here.

As I had said or implied previously, most employees earn paid time off here in America. As for maternity and paternity leave, that is either legislated at the state levels and/or part of a company policy.

yeah, why do black people get a special holiday and not white people?

/s
I know you're being sarcastic, but at the same time we've had St. Patrick's Day for a long time. And us Irish are about was white as it gets. However, if there was legislature to make St. Patrick's Day a national federal holiday, probably most Americans, including us Irish, would say that's ridiculous. Even though the Irish were enslaved at one time and were heavily discriminated against in 19th century America.

I already quoted Trump’s position on the holiday for white people. He’s all for it.
