The president-elect appears to have settled on the Florida senator, who has taken hard-line positions on China, Iran and Venezuela, to be the nation’s top diplomat.

His work in the Senate has included Foreign Relations and other relevant committees.
He seems to be less hostile, divisive and confrontational than most of Trump's team.
He seems like a bright spot in a woefully dreadful field.

As a Floridian it is interesting to me in the fact that Rubio would be up for election in 2026, and we can presume that DeSantis would like that Senate seat since he is term limited in 2026 as well. Rubio leaving the seat means the Governor will appoint his replacement. IMO that means it will be a person understanding they are only going to sit for 2 years and then DeSantis will run for the seat in 2026 or DeSantis will resign and the current Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez would appoint DeSantis to the seat.
