On MLK Day weekend, Trump smears civil rights hero John Lewis as a slumlord
Early Saturday morning, President-elect Donald Trump attacked the Georgia congressman and famed civil rights hero John Lewis for being "all talk, no action" and presiding over a "crime infested" district that's "falling apart."

The thinly veiled racial smear — essentially suggesting Lewis is a slumlord — came on the weekend of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, as the nation prepares to honor the civil rights leader with whom Lewis worked closely in the 1960s to advocate for racial and economic justice.
Trump stooping to a new low as he attacks icons of the Civil Rights Movement on this very weekend.

Is the district that John Lewis presides over crime-ridden and falling apart? If so, what has Lewis done to redeem his district?
Since his district is mostly Atlanta, it looks like things are problematic, but getting better, at least according to wikipedia.

That somebody was a "civil rights hero" at one time does note them immune from criticism for their bad behavior.

Happy Robert E. Lee Day (Monday).

I think Robert E Lee was a little bit more "anti-American" than John Lewis who patriotically fought for civil rights. BTW Robert E Lee day isn't a national holiday, it's is a cultural holiday that is celebrated in four southern states and is celebrated in those states on January 19th. MLK day which is on Monday is a true national holiday, celebrated from coast to coast in Hawaii and Alaska with parades, concerts, and speeches.

Lee did not chose to fight against America, but for the right of Virginia to secede from the Union because he felt that the federal government had violated its covenant with the states and posed a danger to the sovereignty of the states which, ironically, is enshrined into American history in a document named after his uncle.

Lewis can criticize Trump all day, including calling him illegitimate, but Trump can't say a word in response. That doesn't sound terribly fair.

Well, kinda reminds me of those who claimed anyone who criticized Obama, only did so because he was black. I guess some people, just can't be criticized.

"thinly veiled racial smear" sounds like a biased opinion.
Anything other than falling down in worship of non-Whites is "thinly-veiled racism" to some people.

Hey, it's in style to claim racism at every turn. Don't worry about evidence, shout racism now and ask questions later.

And if you question the shouter, it's obvious that you are only doing so because you are racist.

Am I to believe Lee did not in fact lead the Confederate Army against the Federal Government's army thus committing an act (or acts) of treason?

Quite honestly, we should not be surprised by this since it is Trump after all. [Staff edit]. He hates to be criticized and he lashes out on Twitter like an angry child whenever he is. We can expect more of this kind of behavior from him for the next 4 years. Anyway, I thought you would be interested in these articles too.
