  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

At 6:46 on Christmas evening, Trump’s social media account posted: “Tonight, at my direction as Commander in Chief, the United States launched a powerful and deadly strike against ISIS Terrorist Scum in Northwest Nigeria, who have been targeting and viciously killing, primarily, innocent Christians, at levels not seen for many years, and even Centuries! I have previously warned these Terrorists that if they did not stop the slaughtering of Christians, there would be hell to pay, and tonight, there was. The Department of War executed numerous perfect strikes, as only the United States is capable of doing. Under my leadership, our Country will not allow Radical Islamic Terrorism to prosper. May God Bless our Military, and MERRY CHRISTMAS to all, including the dead Terrorists, of which there will be many more if their slaughter of Christians continues.”

Far-right activist Laura Loomer posted: “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate Christmas than by avenging the death of Christians through the justified mass killing of Islamic terrorists. You’ve got to love it! Death to all Islamic terrorists! Thank you.” “Amazing Christmas present by [Trump]!” Representative Randy Fine (R-FL) posted. “With Muslim terrorists attacking Christians in Nigeria, Syria, and even Europe—simply for refusing to submit to Islam—the President is showing that we will no longer tolerate these barbarians.”

I suppose "Love your enemies" was just a nice thought.

President Trump needs to force the Nigerian Prince to release my millions that rightfully belongs to me that they have been holding since 2006 when the check I sent them cleared the bank.

What has Nigeria done to America to cause this terrorist act? I just noticed a history of America starting trouble with other countries. Iraq war was started on a lie. All this money being used on other countries, that we will just make worse. We really don't help these countries at all.

There's two facets at play here...

1) Striking ISIS targets
2) Grappling with the "pro-peace/anti-war" juxtaposition again the current actions

1 is pretty straightforward, I see no issue with striking ISIS targets if they're destabilizing a region.

For 2, I think the "avenging deaths of Christians" talking points are the "lipstick on a pig" to try to make these actions more palatable to the people who specifically touted the "pro-peace/anti-war" ideals with regards to Trump.

If you look at where the air strikes occurred, they targeted areas in the Northwest.

Whereas, according to Armed Conflict Location & Event Data, between January 2020 and September 2025, the deaths that were from targeted attacks against Christians were occurring mainly in the Benue State (which is in the Southeast).

So the strikes are targeting areas that were 550 miles away from any sort of Christian genocide.

There is a difference between the exercise of state power for the common good and the approach of individual Christians who are being persecuted. A Nigerian citizen may have to turn the other cheek, though he also has a right of self-defence when his family or village is attacked. The US Government acted here to protect the global church. I cannot think of a nobler use for power.

The U.S. Government committed an act of violence on the same day the birth of the Prince of Peace is celebrated.

Matthew 10:34-36 NSV - 34 “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household."
