I would think they would have that much.

But with this chain saw approach to trimming the fat I wonder if they have any record of who was working on what.

For example, they notice that there is an unfinished but vital project. They want that guy back. Then it hits. That whole section is gone, including the manager.

Oops!

I'm not so certain. If the data on the firing is held by OPM or DOGE why would they know who had been let go?

Slacker employees exist in any large private corporation as well. Elon just happens to have a novel way of thinning out the drift wood. Fire everyone then hire back the essential people.....
I would say he is not even going that far. Fire everyone then hire back the ones that get screamed about in the papers.

Call it what you will but it is also accurate. So accurate that it has become the butt of many jokes....and some cartoons.......

There's nothing fishy. Employees are not required to provide their personal contact information to employers. If you read the referenced news article, the government was asking line managers to reach out to the fired employees if they happened to have the employees personal contact number.

Employees can be required to give their personal phone numbers. Everywhere I've worked they have them. Employees put them on their applications and resumes. So of course they have them. Fist line supervisors may not have them but they can get them.

Guess what! The essential people often manage to find another job or at least get indications of interest elsewhere. rather quickly. They often prove difficult to hire back.

Multiple waves of firings also presents issues. Those with marketable skills tend to start looking elsewhere. Often enough they find something better. Those with marginal skills, not so much.

Right, it’s a necessary “evil” in our society, we all get to kvetch about having to do it (colonoscopies being another one), but for the people whose job it is…it’s just another day at the office and not really a big deal.
