A group of physicians say the Trump administration ignored their offer to pilot a free flu clinic for detained migrants and asylum seekers in the U.S., despite flu infections being responsible for at least three deaths of migrant children in federal custody during the 2018 flu season.

Earlier this month, physicians sent a letter to then-acting Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kevin McAleenan and Health and Human Services (HHS) department Secretary Alex Azar, requesting to hold an "influenza vaccine clinic" for detained migrants free of charge.

"Flu is a preventable illness," the letter dated to November 5 and signed by seven physicians from across four states, including the three physicians behind the activist group Doctors for Camp Closure, which has advocated against the use of detention centers to house migrants, asylum seekers and refugees, states.

Yet, it continues, "flu infections were responsible for at least 3 child deaths...in federal custody during the 2018 flu season, which is 9 times the mortality incidence of the general pediatric population. In our professional medical opinion, this alarming mortality rate constitutes an emergency which threatens the safety of human lives, particularly of children."

I guess some children's deaths are acceptable or should be a punishment? I don't know why anyone would not give flu vaccines, they save lives.

I read a dozen years ago, that ten or twelve soldiers died BEFORE they left the clinic, from the shots, and that more people died from the shots than from the disease (as has happened perhaps frequently since then)...
Millions of dollars of course, were at stake =- billions perhaps, so what could be done ?

If the government, pharmakeia(which has tried to ban the nutrition in carrots!) ,
or corporations want to profit in some way, and carrots stand in their way, guess what happens...
yep, they will do all they can to ban carrots, or move them out of the way ....

And if the government, pharmakeia, or corporations find a great profit in something, and a simpler, more pure, more healthy way (already used for a thousand years) gets in the way, guess what happens...
they are willing (and have often) to ban what is healthy,
and to GIVE THE GREEN LIGHT to that which harms both the health, and the pocketbook, so more profit can be obtained....

Four physicians and two others protesting their inability to vaccinate migrant detainees at the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) headquarters here were arrested on Tuesday for failing to comply with federal orders to disperse.

The I.R.S. Sent a Letter to 3.9 Million People. It Saved Some of Their Lives.

Three Treasury Department economists have published a working paper finding that these notices increased health insurance sign-ups. Obtaining insurance, they say, reduced premature deaths by an amount that exceeded any of their expectations. Americans between 45 and 64 benefited the most: For every 1,648 who received a letter, one fewer death occurred than among those who hadn’t received a letter.

In all, the researchers estimated that the letters may have wound up saving 700 lives.

Meanwhile, thanks to Donald and the GOP, the uninsured rate has risen for the first time since Obamacare went into effect.
