  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Jews tried to observe 613 laws, most of them man made, without much success. Neither did it make their worship acceptable to God. A show of ritual and outward appearence has little to do with what is hidden in the heart. Repetious worship actions can be done by an atheist.

Respectfully, your brother in Christ,

Well, other believers worship knob only goes up to 613. Ours goes all the way up to 1100, so we are that much more pious than the rest when we are in services.

while i was homeless last year, i lived in shelters and brought the gospel to the people there. i was busy all week, very busy indeed ! on sundays i went every sunday to another church to check them out. i could not believe what these people offered as worship ! it felt like nothing to me at that point of time, because i really suffered at that time living that lifestyle, but i knew that was my fate for that period of time.

We could make one of those rituals bigger though and make them a total of 1000!

Ya know, I often contemplated the Revelation verse saying that the mark of the Lord would be on their foreheards....
The sign of the cross to be certain.

Then I read where Tradition had always signed themselves on their foreheads...and that Revelation was a basis for this as well as the what the forefathers said.

SO, if I mark my forehead with the cross...[St Cyril] I should not be ashamed in the Lord.

AMEN.

Those rituals you do not understand, are very salvivic.

Genuflecting is a sign of honor and reverence to God.

We the clay, give honor to Him the Almighty.

*ADDING;

All knees shall bow down before the Lord. Kneelers.
Ephesians 3
14 For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,

The signs of the cross will be on their foreheads; Signing.[Revelation]

Apocalypse 9 3 And from the smoke of the pit there came out locusts upon the earth. And power was given to them, as the scorpions of the earth have power:
4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, nor any green thing, nor any tree: but only the men who have not the sign of God on their foreheads.
Apocalypse 7
3 Saying: Hurt not the earth, nor the sea, nor the trees, till we sign the servants of our God in their foreheads.

All shall be in Reverence of the Lord Almighty for He is King; genuflecting.
NOTE* WE bow down before our King.
Psalms 23
10 Who is this King of Glory? the Lord of hosts, he is the King of Glory.

Candles are the light in the darkness; Because God is our Light. [Symbolic for bringing light to our dark moments.]
John 11
9 Jesus answered: Are there not twelve hours of the day? If a man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world:
John 12
46 I am come a light into the world; that whosoever believeth in me, may not remain in darkness.
WE also see where the Virgins kept oil to bring in the Bridegroom with their lanterns [candles]

Icons are reminders of God; as done also in the Temple of God...the Church is God's house and we should be mindful of how to behave. [Timothy]

1 Timothy 3
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
2 1 Timothy 3
5 But if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?

Scripture states:

James 1:27
Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

now, with forgiveness asked of RC and EO, as they will likely have the finger pointed at them most often for this, but most other protestant denominations are quite guilty of it too,

If what God our Father accepts as pure and faultless religion is to take care of orphans and widows, and to not be polluted, are we not getting it wrong with the current level of religiousity(word?) that we are portraying?

kneel, here, take three steps and genuflect, repeat after the priest/pastor... offer penance, etc... etc... ad nauseum.

It doesn't really matter what denomination or practice it is, are we not participating in Religious rituals that God does not consider pure and faultless?

If one did nothing more than take care of widows and orphans, and keep from being polluted (as best he or sh can) does ANY of the other stuff even remotely matter?

what do you think?
I think you are being extremely narrow minded in thinking this one verse embodies the whole gospel.

This is a classic example of taking one verse out of context and creating a whole gospel around it.

This is pretty much how all those other religions and other denominations are all made.

In any case though... HOW are you getting no ritual from this verse?

Our practice is to take care those who need us, and to detach from the world.

I have no clue where you are getting no Liturgy out of that?

Don't fall into the either or trap. Just becuase it's said here that God find this practice pure, it doesn't mean this is the only practice he finds pure nor does it mean no liturgy!

Really what you've shown is, faith with out works, will not cut it. That our works are purifying.

PPl who do not have a liturgy either, they too also can be just putting on a show.

Lip service is lip service, vain repetition is vain repetition regardless if it's the Liturgy or if it's your praise and worship CD you listen to over and over.

However, there is much ballyhoo about those who do NOT do one thing or another

No, there isn't. At least not where I have ever been to Mass.

But so what if there is... what does this have to do with what is true to God?

Read Revelation, that is the heavenly worship that God asks for, that he brings down to us.

Look in Revelation, see what you will be doing in heaven.

There is a lot of rituals being done in heaven before the throne of God.
