There is a sense in which everyone who calls themselves Christian is "Christian" but does the person actually live in a Christ like manner?

Of course not. If they did, they wouldn't need Jesus and so wouldn't need to be a Christian. The standard which some Christians set for Christian behavior is a direct contradiction of what the religion teaches, that you are not perfect but can be forgiven.

If they don't then I can understand trying to say that such a person and their actions shouldn't be held up as an example of what is truly Christian. That's usually when people try to distance a person from their faith. When they do something crazy and then they are being held up as an example of what the faith is all about.

Occasionally we'll see a Jew doing something stupid but I have never heard of the Jewish community denying that the person is really a Jew.

Quite often we see muslims doing something stupid and still I don't see muslims denying their own. Muslims willl complain that extremists have corrupted the religion and their actions are not an example of good muslim behavior but I have yet to hear any muslim get on the news and claim that the extremists are not real muslims. Nor have I ever encountered muslims doing this IRL.

What services are you planning to attend?

I already attend services at a local synagogue. I plan to began my formal conversion to Judaism as soon as I have made up my mind which branch of Judaism I want to be part of.

I suggested to my brother that he might try catholicism. I also told him about B'nai Noah. He seems to like the idea of that.

If you are seeking, what are your reasons for the rejection of Jesus?

In a nutshell, I would rather have my own relations with G-d than let someone else do it for me.

There is more to it than that but that's the most important reason to me.

If you are interested, I can PM a more detailed responce. I fear I may be banned if I post my reasons here.

What are your reasons? Feel free to PM if the same applies.

I would be interested in such a PM. I have told my story on here before, but I can respond to your PM with my journey.

I understand your caginess, but this doesn't describe what Christianity is, so it's not a legit excuse for rejecting Jesus.

That is exactly what Christianity is. You have a relationship with Jesus and he acts as a go-between between you and G-d.

I'm not interested in letting Jesus do it for me. I would rather have my own relationship with G-d without Jesus getting in the way.

This is twice that you say "that is exactly what Christianity is." And then you furnished yet a third instance of defeating a strawman.

If that is the case, instead of just disagreeing with me, how's about making some attempt to clear up my misconceptions?

Obviously, whatever you are labelling as "christianity" is a falsehood that needs to be rejected!

No, it's not obvious at all. If it were obvious that Christiantiy was something other than the way I describe it, I wouldn't describe it that way.

As far as I can tell, Christianity is a religion and one in which instead of having a personal relationship with G-d, some dude named Jesus does it for you.

How is Christianity not a religion? How is Christianity not just exactly as I describe it?

Words indeed have meaning applied to them, but they still have meaning.

And that meaning is understood by others - perhaps 'by agreement', but regardless if others didn't understand we'd not be able to converse.

I make no argument to the point of the meaning being forever in stone.

The fact people here have chosen 'faith icons' means that titles have meaning.

If you start pointing the finger and saying "Not everyone who claims to be a Christian is a real Christian," then I'll start with you. You, the one who says this, is the fake and I will no longer give you an audience because you are not a real Christian. You just admitted it.

Since Protestant Christianity is a religion of belief, then anyone who believes in Christianity is a Christian. Period.

Since we can't look into people's brains, then when someone says they believe in Christianity, we have to take them at their word. And so everyone that says they are a real Christian is a Christian. Period.

One of the prices you pay for instant conversions, very loose rules about who is a member of the club and no excommunication is that every knucklehead that wants to be a Christian is a Christian and you have to take them all. If someone does something stupid, you don't get to kick them out. If you want to disown them, you're the one that is going to have to drop the "Christian" title. As far as the rest of the world is concerned, that knucklehead is still a Protestant Christian until (S)HE says otherwise, not you.

If you don't like it, become a Catholic.
You shall know them by their love.
