  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Incredible swordplay. As a fencer and a historical weapon buff I can say that it was actually remotely accurate and not just for flair. The part where Achilles strikes Hector's shield and then spins out and starts trotting around him made me laugh. We do the exact same thing in fencing after an attack is parried.

I loved Achilles character however I felt they cheapened him in the end by having him "save the girl", it just spoiled it for me.

Overall a very entertaining movie if a very liberal rendition of the Illiad.

the movie was rubbish.
a typical hollywood epic made only to make money. it had all the right ingredients from seasoned movie professionals, but to any semi intelligent movie watcher it was just like any other blockbuster. chuck in a few A list stars, a love story, a bit of conflict, some great CGIs, hype and marketing and enough money to feed somalia, then of course people will watch it and say its good.
i enjoyed watching it, and was laughing most of the way through - usually at the exaggerated poses, 'staring at the horizon' looks, and cheesy dialogue. its a fun movie and will make millions, but its just rehashing a known formula for success. nothing amazing or legendary about it... i don't know why an actor like mr pitt would choose such a movie to be apart of. maybe he was bored. i am.

Those sword fights were the best I have ever seen.

sunstone. movies can not be good, but i can still enjoy watching it.
like dude where's my car or deep blue sea or american pie. they're terrible films but i still enjoy watching it. ie, i can laugh at it (even if i'm not meant to), and love the chase scenes or big fights or when someone gets eaten by a shark. but overall the movie is no good - poorly made and written etc.

so i stick by my comment that troy was rubbish - typical hollywood blockbuster. but coz brad pitt is a great actor and helen was looking fine, and there were some pretty cool fight scenes i enjoyed it...

peace, josh.

It was just the usual hoolywood stuff but i didn't go to see anything deeply intelligent so i wasn't really bothered. I thought eric bana and brad pitt were good but orlando bloom was a bit rubbish.
That kid who played patroclus had a terrible accent:"I want to foiight"
Which brings me to another point. Why in all historical films do the characters have english accents, eh?

>>However, it follows the Iliad to a bare minimum, which annoyed me slightly.<<

Didn't bother me so much. After all the Greeks didn't mind mucking around with the story line. Euripides wrote a play where Helen didn't go to Troy after all, it was just a sort of phantom the gods sent, while she went off to Egypt. Then she and Menelaus meet up there after the fall of Troy.
