Trouble Hearing God

Sorry, just an extra: God doesn't reject people, ever. Just sin. And God convicts us of sin so that we can do a U-turn. Not pulling a U is what separates us from God.
Otherwise we'd be forever blaming our lack of nice close to God feelings on some secret sin... let alone poverty, insecurity, marital status...
God isn't on a sin-hunt, God wants to get to know us and to learn who God is...
How do we do that. Hmmmmn.... indeed!

I will try this advice to get rid of the other voices so that I can reconize God's - but I also think part of the problem is I can't tell which is my own, either! Therefore, I will also try the advice to be confident in myself and who I am so that I can find God better! Thanks All!

When I'm really stuck, I try looking in the mirror at my eyes to see where I'm hiding - the proper me under all the ****. Then talk to myself/God (I am not saying I am God!).

I completly understand where you're coming from because I was like that for awhile. I think it's harder for some than others, and maybe God is putting you through this right now as far as you questioning him so you can go through a spiritual journey to find out who he really is and how he can move in your life. I know it must be so hard right now but don't give up and keep fighting. And maybe if your not in a church right now you should try one out and see if you can get anything out of the service and anything out of the message. You might be surprised; I used to go to church with this bless me if you will attitude and I'd come out sometimes with a new outlook on things. As much as I used to question God and turned away from him everything in my life, even the little things, would always turn me back to God no matter what. Like if i would be in a bad situation He would get me out, or if i ever know I'm doing something bad i have a conscience that's like no this is wrong, and I know that sounds corny but it's true because that's God giving me insight. So basically I know He's with me, through thick and thin. I really hope it works out for you and if you ever need to talk to someone I'll always be willing to talk just message me. God bless.

DO NOT FEEL CONDEMNED, EVER. God will judge and convict, not condemn (it's the Christian's that do that! Noticed?)
I only recognise God when I'm secure in myself. Relaxed, confident. Maybe you need to work on that - it's tempting to ask God to do it all the time after all! - when you decide to love yourself and work on being naturally you, God will aid where appropriate.

When Flan said that, it occurred to me that you might have gone through a very legalistic, condemning church experience. When we're so afraid of doing something wrong, making the next move, hearing correctly, we clutter our own thoughts. Could that be part of it?

... and Satan is called "the Adversary." If you hear condemnation, that obviously causes a negative impact on your life and stifles you into doing nothing. If you hear loving nudges, that's most likely God. It's probably fine to just sit back and refuse to listen to any voices, to clear it all out.

Generally, when WE strive to make things happen, most of the time it's US, who get in the way of the connection process. When we try with minimum effort, we find that we're not giving enough. However, when we try with maximum effort, we sometimes encounter the "mouse on the spinning wheel affect".

A agree with the post that say you must start with reading the Holy Bible. This way you'll find this is how God will speak to you, and through His Word, you'll know how to connect with Him.

I would start reading I John, II John and III John. These talk to the newly born believers in Christ. I John 2.."My little Children. These things I write unto you that ye sin not..."

If you come to God with a sincere and earnest heart DOUBTING NOTHING, then God will surely honor it.
