Mount Calvary was actually formed when the site was used to quarry limestone. Due to a fault in the limestone they quarried around it thus making a manmade hill. This fault in the stone formed a whole in which they would secure the post that formed the cross where our Lord was crucified.

In essence Calvary was a man-made altar thus meeting the requirement that any pleasing sacrifice made to God had to be made by man's own hands.
