  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Depends on which account. It's one or two

Depends - donkey or donkey AND colt

Not according to the other creation account (Genesis 2).

I must say you almost had me on the last one. i almost had to contact the dean and ask him. But after reading many translations and KJV it is translated as plants of the field. Those are plants which you would find on a farm. The NLT says wild plants and is a poor translation. What God was saying were no food bearing plants, this is evident in there was no one to cultivate the soil. The word field can also be translated as ground, when we think of ground we think of earth earth can also be translated as field.

Sense we know nothing is allowed in the Bible which contradicts other scripture and this would seem to be doing it by the NLT translation it is a poor translation, what was meant was plants of the field, God was saying there was nothing to eat, no food bearing plants. There were trees and other plants.

I must thank you I really had to pray and search, but God showed me the truth. Just a little faith can move mountains.

I am not sure what your basis for this is - field does not mean farm, does it?
I noticed two different words are actually used. There is land (הָאֲדָמָ֡&#1492 mentioned in 2 Samuel 9:10 which is different from the land (הַשָּׂדֶ֗&#1492 mentioned at the beginning of Genesis - which is different from the word used for ground/land used at the end of the passage. In fact, it is the same word from 2 Samuel. The word use in 2 Samuel and at the end of the passage is related to the word for man and Adam (haadamah) as opposed to hassadeh.

It would seem appropriate to conceptionalize hassadeh as the wilderness- while haadamah, which is similar to man/Adam, represents that which belongs to man (farm), would it not?
In other words, Genesis is talking about plants of the wilderness.

Do you think that would be a contradiction? I think modern westerners have a very different view of what truth and contradiction mean. Today, most people think a story that contains different facts is contradictory. Back then, people considered a story that had contradictory meanings or points was contradictory.

Authors of the ancient world were concerned with meaning as the truth of an account with little regard for the precise facts. Today, we value truth as a matter of precise facts without regard for the meaning.

Is there a reason why we must believe that the bible is correct on all matters of precise facts - even though that is our cultural value? Why must we believe that every factual detail of the bible is true - other than thinking, that's our truth?

The dean of the school of religion took his class last quater and he taught me this very thing.

When you talk about plants of the feild you are talking about grown plants not wild ones. Which I believe God has shown me another truth, in rev it talks about the beast of the feild and disases coming from them. I had watched a video on our food supplie and how easy it can be tantied. Rev seems to be saying from farm beast in our food supplie will be an out break of diseases.

On to the next part must we accept all scripute as true, yes because as Ptere said and other it is written by God through men. God is the Spirit of Truth. That is why I said with a little faith you can move mountains. First you believe the Bible is Gods word and all true and then you seek to understand it by way of The Holy Spirit.

You seem to be struggling with your faith if you think even one word in the bible is not true, and you seem not to understand truth when you want to debate what is truth. Truth is simply true whether you believe it or not.

The dean of the school of religion took his class last quater and he taught me this very thing.

He taught you what?

When you talk about plants of the feild you are talking about grown plants not wild ones.

I am not understanding your basis for that? Wild plants are grown, sometimes they are growing, the same with domesticated plants.

Hmm, what part of Revelation are you talking about?

We both agree- but what I am asking is what is your basis for understanding truth - it is simply a matter of detailed facts or is it a matter of meaning?
In the ancient world, details were altered or forgotten for the sake of meaning. In the modern world, meaning is forgotten or altered for the sake of details.

Do you think, for example, the Gospel writers were interested in conveying a meaning or all the details of the life of Christ? The Gospels read like a story, a narrative. They don't read like an army report.

You seem to be struggling with your faith if you think even one word in the bible is not true,

There are many different translations. Even among the manuscripts there are different versions. I do not understand how one can get focused on a single world?

and you seem not to understand truth when you want to debate what is truth.

I don't want to debate truth, I am just asking you what do you consider truth?

Truth is simply true whether you believe it or not.

But what is your basis for truth? If I tell a story of details without a meaning, is that true? If I tell a story with altered details, but a meaning a purpose is that not true?

Which came first- plants and animals or man?

Here's a fun answer (keep in mind this is only meant as a joke):

On the third day, God created the plants, and rested.

On the fifth day, God created the beasts, and rested.

On the sixth day, God created man then woman, and rested.

SInce then, God, man, nor beast has rested since.

God Bless

Till all are one.

what did he teach me about plants created on the 3rd day and under ground springs watering the plants basically all of creation and more.

If you tell a story and leave stuff out it is still true, but we get a better understanding of the story by details. The left out details are still true whether they are in or out of the story.

There is two types of food from God's word, milk, and meat. Milk is for the new in Christ and meat is for the mature in Christ. Often the meat is in the details.

Details are important because people will use them to say the Bible is untrue, it is wise to learn every little part of the Word because every word is important or it would no0t have been written. Those who put the words down chose the words carefully and for reason, we should look at the words carefully as well.

Well according to Genesis light came before plants so possible that light?

And without the sun what was the source of this light? Do we assume it was enough light to reach earth in enough quantity?

Yes, there is a reason we must search scripture for truth, even facts! We are commanded to do so, just as the early saints were commanded to search scripture to make sure the apostles were telling the truth. The Bereans did this and so should we. Without truth and fact in scripture, it is no more than false scripture and another gospel which we have been warned of numerous times throughout scripture. Unless there is truth in scripture, there is no truth elsewhere and we are no more saved than the reprobate and our faith is in vain

You must be joking. Your little sign says baptist how is it you don't understand?

do you think light only comes from stars? let me put in your terms what about a light bulb, light from electricity or light from a fire. and what about the light that shines from God and is in us.

oh your pro science. I question that they say there dating shows the earth is millions of years old God says thousands, so I think science can't date crap. which even leads me to question the books of the Bible they claim are from this date. If they can not date the earth they can no0t date a book and they could have very well been from Jesus time. maybe even first copies.

You worship your God i'll worship mine

So God's light causes photosynthesis? It's not about not understanding, it's about not buying what an errant preacher tells you when your a kid.

God doesn't say thousands...man interprets thousands from Scripture because he doesn't understand. Educate yourself.

You and I worship the same God. We may just understand Him differently.

is that what you call that it is education oh. well i have a degree and 7 years of advanced schooling plus getting another 7 currently. That enough education for ya?

Simple fact is man was created on the last day, and yes it was days of creation. man can be traced back thousands of years. Jesus bloodline is traced all the way back through Seth to Adam in Luke, there is simply not millions of years worth of generations.

I assume by advanced schooling you mean graduate school? What accredited masters and doctorates do you have?

I must confess I may have taken a different route than you. I have a BS, MA, MDiv and hope to defend my PhD. What degree requires 7 years? Even the kids fresh out of undergrad school and skip their masters to pursue a PhD in 4-6 years. Does your doctorate require a dissertation that requires and unusual amount of research time? I would have to commend you for that.

no no. I have 3 years for my BA in religion it is just a long program, and then I have 4 years of seminary. I have been thinking of getting my doctors that is another 2 years. I am getting my master in div, I am 3 credit shy of degree in music and i have a degree in Human Services. I am also missing one class for motorcycles mechanics i took at a 2 year school. I have had a lot of majors nothing fit until ministry.

I meant college maybe should not have said advanced.

Have we ever thought that perhaps the light that was created when God said, “Let there be light” was the sun? After all, there was a thick layer of water that surrounded the earth. It was then divided with part covering the earth with water and the other part making the atmospheric layers, the clouds or heaven (the realm which the birds fly (verse 20) in and we call sky, not the Heaven which we go to to be with our Savior). Then the dry land was made to appear out of the waters. The plants were then created and the light that shown from above the layer allowed the plants to be nourished with light. When the layer was removed, the sun showed through in the day, while the stars and the great light of the night (moon) lit the earth. Just my thoughts on the matter, which isn’t for fetched when you consider the great light (the sun) continues to radiate through clouds and thick fog that plants may grow in regions it shouldn’t. If were refer Paul in 2 Corinthians 4:6, Paul draws from the creation account to contrast the sinner’s conversion from darkness to light. Without light, nothing grows. Consider the thickest point of the rain forest where no sun light directly hits the area, yet because of the light that shines around and radiates the day, if gives way to growth, even on the floor that is covered in thick sediment where no light shines either.

Yeah i don't look to science to explain the Bible. Like i said Jesus bloodline was traced all the way back to Adam in luke why don't you add it up. it is not a hundred thousand years worth.

Funny too, is that Wednesday morning when I got home from work. The CBS Morning news just revealed new evidence of a bone uncovered that had human DNA that dated back to around 400,000 years ago.

400,000 Year Old Human DNA adds new tangle to our orign story.

What will science come up with next?

God Bless

Till all are one.

That is my point their dating is way off. which makes me wonder if we can trust the dates of books of the Bible. How do we know we do not have the first drafts? Think if Mathew was written by Mathew and we have it, but science say not possible because it does not date to then. They can't even date a person how can they with a book.

soon man will be billions years old and the sun will predate all planets and everything in space proving to be hundreds of trillions years old, at least untill they find a new number to plug in
