  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The CC rules only imply that one be Trinitarian in order to be a member (by adhering to the Nicene Creed), but don't expressly state it.

The roster has a non-Trinitarian listed as a member (may have been changed already), and when someone asked about the Trinity in the sign-up thread, those who responded stated that non-Trinitarianism was not acceptable for a CC member.

So, I'm suggesting that our rules specifically make mention that members are to be Trinitarian. This would not be a "new" rule, but merely clarifying what the rules were always intended to state. So this doesn't actually require going through the whole "new rule" process. But another member thought it was a good idea to at least have a poll just to make sure everyone was on board and knew what was happening, so we will probably only look at results for a day or two, and then go ahead and act accordingly.

Vote "yes" if adding "Trinity" into the rules is fine with you.

Vote "no" if you have any problem AND post what your concern is.

So what else is missing? Can't we just place a creed in there to cover the details? That is sorta what they're about...
And now we can see the dire need that Creeds had to be made in the church's past.

To keep the corruption & heretics from taking them over - or infiltrating them from within to break it apart.

I always get stunned when people complain that a "creed" isn't from God so we shouldn't be following men's traditions & teachings... they actually undermine what the creeds were meant to correct and establish.

Question:
Does this mean that the people who HAVE joined this section may not actually accept the Trinity???
Theoretically, yep.

Like I said, there was already one member whose faith icon specifically said "non-Trinitarian". The person was added to the membership list, but they never actually said, "sign me up," she had just asked a couple questions about membership, like where the Wiki was. So, it's possible her name was added accidentally.

But there certainly could have been others who didn't see the Wiki as implying the Trinity, and so signed up without believing it.

The Nicene Creed does imply a trinity tho - by claiming Jesus is God. Once Jesus is God, there's an issue in "how many God's are there since the Father is God?".

So, it IS technically there, it just needs an emphatic claim to keep from any snags later.
Thanks for the reply.

Technically a person can not adhere to the Nicene creed without being trinitarian. That is actually the entire reason that said creed was written in the first place.

However, in this day and age, enough people don't know the creed, or understand it so it apparently needs to be more clearly stated.
