• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Triggers

What triggers your times of depression

  • a loss or death in the family

  • a argument with someone close

  • when someone appears to have rejected me

  • when I am struggling to pay my bills

  • When my health seems to be getting worse

  • I can't seem to think of any triggers at all

  • just getting up in the morning

  • there isn't any triggers. I'm always depressed

I was wondering if you all have given any thought to what usually triggers your depression or times of sadness? I had an incident that would have overwhelmed me a few months ago happen recently and I was really kinda surprised it didn't trigger a depressive episode with me.
What usually happens that causes you to get depressed?

I suppose it could be all of the above.... it really depends. I voted about when I argue with someone close, when my health is getting worse, and then (just to be contradictory), I said that there aren't any triggers, I'm always depressed. It really depends - there are triggers sometimes, but other times - nights especially - I just get depressive (or manic sometimes as well).

I think the key word you mentioned is "balance". I don't have a lot of that when I get depressed. Most of the time if I take time for me then I feel guilty.
This morning was wonderful. I went for a walk, went to a bookstore, took a long shower and rested. I felt guilty a little bit, but told myself that it was okay and that I needed some time to rest.
