• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have BPD and I have suffered alot because of it. At times it is hard to be close to God because of how much I have suffered in my life but I am trying. Do others suffer with difficulty being close to God because of BPD?

I was suspected of having BPD but it's more likely to be C-PTSD due to the close similarities of the symptoms. I was never diagnosed because my parents saw no point in getting me diagnosed.

Either way, I do have trouble trusting God and His promises half the time because of how I was treated growing up and how many authority figures failed me throughout my life. Being constantly rejected and mistreated without understanding why really does a number on you.

God understands what goes on in your mind. Everything the psychology books say, God is the one who invented it. Don't worry, He cares for you and wants the best for you.
Thank you for this response :) I have difficulty from mistreatment as well. I am glad to have this site and people to talk to about it. It is difficult to trust God when there is so much suffering. I hope feeling safe with God feels easier for us both.

Years ago, I think I did need a diagnoses. A psychologist has told me that he saw some signs of C-PTSD but never did any diagnostics. That was years ago. Today, I'm doing a heck of a lot better since working my current job. The most effective way of treating C-PTSD is by having therapeutic relationships with patient people. My boss and co-workers were able t give me this and as a result I improved greatly. I'm not perfect but I am a lot more stable now.

I wouldn't self diagnose because some people can be hypochondriacs. I'd say get a professional to do so and then get the proper treatment. I suffer from Asperger's Syndrome and you wouldn't believe how many people out there self diagnose that disorder to use as a way of justifying their bad behavior.
That is wonderful that you have a good boss and co-worker to help you be more stable and improve. I have PTSD that I have talked with a doctor about but Ive not yet been formally diagnosed with BPD. I have most all the symptoms. Having good support does help alot and I am glad you are alot more stable. Have you been a Christian a long time?

I also have BPD and I suffered a lot as well. I almost lost my life a few times, but with God's help, I managed to figure out exactly what was causing each of my symptoms and how to manage them.

You don't have to be controlled by your illness for the rest of your life. Yes, we have triggers that make it very difficult but we can change how we respond to them by practicing better responses. What we practice grows stronger.

Over the years, we have been practicing responding to our triggers in unhealthy ways (unconsciously), and that's why they became so strong and automatic. If we practice reacting in a healthy way (by use of strategies), over time the healthier behaviours become stronger. That is the power of salvation. It is a process that helps us to overcome these obstacles.

Our physical health also affects our ability to think clearly and to have the energy we need to fight against all these symptoms.

And of course, reading the Bible and praying every day gives us the spiritual energy we need from God. The Holy Spirit gives us power and a sound mind:

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7
