Could just be they have a hard time understanding that not everyone has to go to an authority to figure out what to believe. Religion tends to involve to authorities interpreting a book for the mass of followers so other approaches towards understanding reality might not be obvious.

Favourite atheists? What´s that supposed to mean? You almost make it sound like atheism were a belief system or some other complex thing.

Reject? I haven´t even read them. I don´t see how the fact that one lacks a belief requires books, pop icons, horsemen, or favourites, in the first place.

Sorry, mistook you for some else I think. Someone out here said that if they claimed they were an atheist they had to justify their claims. Basic epistemology!

Further the agnostic (weak one) makes no knowledge claims and doesn't have that burden.

The person I was replying to seems to understand that basic distinction (rare out here), but you clearly conflate those two as the same claim.

I take back the "bravo", as you neither prepared to defend "haven't read any books in support of atheism," or recognize the difference between someone claiming, "Not P," and someone claiming, "I have no knowledge that P is true or not true."

Sorry for the confusion.

The post that you bravoed read:
"Was going to respond but..

realized none of this describes me or applies to me.."
I would say the same about myself.
I have no idea how you read all the above into that post. (But maybe you know more about the poster from previous conversations....).

I do recognize the difference between claiming "Not P" and "I have no knowledge that P is true or not true".
Regarding knowledge, my position is the latter (label: agnostic). Regarding belief, I don´t hold any theistic beliefs (label: atheist).

Bravo. You if you go one step further to recognize that to make a knowledge claim requires justification and to represent a doxastic status does not, you will have differentiated yourself from a majority of atheists both proper and doxastic.
