In this fallen world trials will come. We are guaranteed we will have trouble in this world, according to Jesus:
John 16:33
I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.
According to Paul, God even sent him a trial to build his trust:
2 Corinthains 1:9
Yes, we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves but in God who raises the dead
I think trials expose who we really are inside. The pressure comes and shakes us and causes what is deep in our hearts to come to the surface. Sometimes it is surprising how bad it can get. I think this is why Paul said that in his flesh dwells no good thing. There is no end to human depravity without the Lords help.
We have great hope though because Christ has gotten the victory. He not only gives us an external victory over our enemies, but also an internal one as He defeated the powers of sin and death which rule over us without His help.
Jesus, please help us to take advantage of your victory by submitting ourselves to you as our Lord and Master and letting you fight the battle. I plead the blood of Jesus over the struggle we face, and pray you would give us the strength to submit to you. In your name, Amen
