It's pretty much the same as Emmaus, you should expect....actually, you are supposed to "not anticipate."
You should expect the time of your life--period. YOu should expect:
good food
good fellowship
unbelievable experiences in the presence of Jesus Christ
a changed life
a new perspective on your relationship with God
not much sleep;)

Question for you herev (and not high-jacking your thread Wired! :) )

Why are such "experiential" Christian programs always accompanied by lack of adequate sleep? I often thinks that this actually drives emotionality and such. Could this be part of the design of the original planners?

It's possible, but I would consider it an unintentional side effect. With Tres Dias, or Emmaus, or whatever related weekend, there is a tremendous amount of study to be put into 72 hours. Along with all the fun and fellowship (which are carefully planned), there are also 15 talks on doctrine which are each followed by discussion and creativity. It really takes a lot of time to get it all in

Clement,

I really didn't experience a lack of sleep as a "pilgrim". The team workers don't always get a lot of sleep because we still have things to do once the "pilgrims" are in bed.

But on all the Walks/Flights I worked, people generally got plenty of sleep. It's not a brainwashing tactic! :D ;) (Some people actually do think these 3-day retreats are a cult. They couldn't be more wrong!)

I came home from Walk to Emmaus well-rested. Spiritually overwhelmed, but physically rested.

Afterthought: I probably gained a couple of pounds that weekend also. Great food!

Thanks Mary....I know it is not a cult. Just having done some research on the psychology of religious experience, I was curious as to whether, in these cases, sleep deprivation might possibly lead to enhanced religious experience.

Don't get me wrong....I am a believer in the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers! :)

I think some of these erroneous ideas that are (or at least "were") floating around among folks who hadn't been on a Walk, came from the air of secrecy that used to be encouraged about everything so as not to give all the good stuff away. And sometimes people who had been would joke around and make things up, or exaggerate things, and well . . . you know how things take on a life of their own!

So the Emmaus headquarters started discouraging the secrecy to try to dispel all the crazy ideas that were out there. Hopefully, that has worked.
