• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was just diagnosed with some kind of tremors. I forgot what it is called but it runs in families. I shake really bad and people are always telling me about it and I got tired of it because it has become much worse. I don't think anything else happens but these incidental tremors or something like that. Has anyone else had them? I am going to start of a medicine for them tonight. I pray it works and does not have a lot of side effects.

I suffer from the same, have done for several years, my mother did too, so I understand. The neurologist recommended a small glass of red wine every day which helped and a month ago he told me to take a strong cup of coffee in the morning....so far it´s working.

Best wishes

I'm so glad you are getting relief, that's wonderful!

:pray:for you Ruth.
Thanks so much!

I start week 2 of the medicine tonight and that is an increase in it. I think I've got awhile to go before this stuff kicks in, or hopefully kicks in.

Hey Ruth. Was is Essential Tremor by any chance? Essential tremor is a type of tremor that usually does run in families and is sometimes called familial tremor. I was diagnosed with this myself last year. My tremors involve my head mainly which shakes in a 'no-no' type way and my hands tend to be quite trembly at times too. I am on propanolol to help cotrol the shakes with moderate sucess. Praying that God's grace can be renewed everyday.

Does it get worse if you get nervous or angry? Is the medicine effective?

Yes the tremor does tend to get worse if I am nervous or upset. It doesn't even need to be something that I conciously react to. Sometimes just the process of getting ready or the prospect of going somewhere can set it off. I might add since it has been a while since I last posted my tremors have worsened some but are still managable. The medication does help but it doesn't take the tremor away completely.

I also have essential tremors. They started when I was around 8, but no one was able to diagnose me till I went to Chrildren's Medical Center at 19! I was given epolipsy meds but the potential sides effects were worse than the tremors. Is the medicine you were given helping?
