  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I loved the original series, even though I'd seen Generation 2 first. I caught the original series when Sci-Fi Channel played it around six or seven years ago. I miss it a lot. Luckily I was able to record a lot of it onto VHS, so if I had the time I could probably sift through and find those episodes again. I can't remember the name of story arc that was my favorite, but I do remember it had five parts and at the end Cybertron was completely restored. It came near the end of the series, though. I wish I could remember the name of it  .

I do have the movie on DVD though.

Generation 2 is still considered the same series as generation 1. g1 was before the movie g2 was after.
How exactly does that work, though? I know that the series that was billed as Generation 2 had (from what I know) the original mid-80s-type animation [maybe they were just repackaged episodes from the mid-80s, I dunno], but was interspersed with CG screens. I can't remember too much more of it, but I do have the comic book (which didn't seem like the series at all). I also don't think it was arranged into any cohesive storyline, but like I said, I can't remember; I was only 5 at the time. It didn't seem like it was after the movie, though, since some of the episodes I do remember where very similar to ones that occurred before the movie. It seemed really jumbled. I mean, I know the movie happened about two seasons into the original series, and then the third season took place after the movie. I dunno, I'm confused :help: .

Maybe this will help.

The Generation 2 TV series was a chopped up re-airing of episodes from the first 3 seasons Transformers series with (annoying) computer transition additions instead of either an Autobot or Decepticon insignia being flipped when changing scenes. So, it was basically the same as the original series aired in the 80's.

The first 2 seasons of TF were pre-movie. The 3rd season was post-movie with Rodimis Prime as Autobot leader. There was then the special 2-part episode entitled "The Return of Optimus Prime". (What was the use of warning of spoilers in that episode?) Following this...there was a 3 part episode in the 4th season (which was the only episode in the 4th season aired in the USA) which introduced the Head/Target Masters.

The Japanese carried on several series after that which were never aired in the USA: Headmasters, Masterforce, and Transformers Victory are just three of them. As I understand there was some magna too.

And now with various other TF shows such as Beast Wars (which at least showed some continuity with G1. Loved "The Agenda 3-parter), Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise, Armada, Energon...no wonder it gets confusing.

The comic follows a different continuity than the tv series and, except for many of the same characters being displayed, it's altogether different. (Not to mention Grimlock, and the other Dinobots, are portrayed as being more intelligent under the hand of famed TF writer Simon Furman.) And, it had it's own confrontation with Unicron.

Well 2nd confrontation rather if you include the British TF comic. While the American comic went out once a month the Brits had theirs out weekly. Thus, they had many of their own stories which were made to somehow fit into the American continuity. Even the movie was included as cannon...but explained the events which occurred within it was a different dimension. One of the American comic issues added at least one more dimension to boot to it's continuity. That's at least 3 different dimensions the writers worked onto the story-line somehow.

Confused yet? ;)

The G2 apparently follows some time after the events in the original comic series...and it doesn't.

And the current comics put out by Dreamwave combine certain aspects from the past TV and Comic series...so it's hard to know what's "cannon" and what's not.

The way I view it is...they're all different takes on the TF universe(s) and every fan is going to have a personal preference on what that would be.

I would say it is a tie between the 80's transformers and Beast Wars...
I like both of then though...the new series is ok, but there is one problem...

THEY HAS NO JAZZ!! Jazz was my favorite Transformer from the original series! Then the one that looks like a VW Bug I think...bumblebee was its name I think.
